Vmedvil Posted April 5, 2023 Report Posted April 5, 2023 (edited) Currently, Coal and Gas energy generation is at 58.8% of the global energy generation with the planned construction of 129 reactors that will increase nuclear power by 3.33% and Coal/gas generation to 55.47% with 1.29 trillion USD in expendure into nuclear power. Now let's do some math magic how much would we have to spend in money on a global scale on nuclear power to completely eliminate the usage of fossil fuels in electricity generation. We would need to construct 2,278 nuclear reactors with a yield of 1 gigawatt per plant to completely remove fossil fuels from the grid costing around 22.78 trillion dollars globally being 28% of the planet's GDP for one year which would completely remove the usage of fossil fuels on this planet. This would remove 1,822,400,000 pounds of CO2 Hourly from the atmosphere eliminating global warming and climate change on this planet. This may sound like a heavy price tag at 22.78 trillion but when you consider the rising oceans and lowering yields for crops as the climate changes in the long term it is much cheaper than destroying this planet via climate change... Considering that this planet generates 80 trillion as a GDP per year the destruction of this planet would be disasterous and a massive loss of resources due to human neglect of it. With the advent of electric cars it makes sense to completely remove fossil fuels for energy generation in all forms, I hope you see this version of the future too. New reactor technologies are much safer if not cheaper and newer reactors make much less and safer waste streams. Molten salt thorium reactors are IMHO at the forefront of modern reactor technologies and are much safer. Quote
