Tormod Posted May 20, 2004 Report Posted May 20, 2004 Hm...dunno...the statistics show traffic remains the same. Maybe you scared them all away. Or maybe it's time for finals in high schools and colleges all over the place. Tormod Quote
Freethinker Posted May 20, 2004 Report Posted May 20, 2004 That's why I changed my "Here's Johnny" avitar. I figure my posts are scary enough! For the curious, my current one is the "Happy Humanist" logo from the Council for Secular Humanism. Quote
sundog Posted May 20, 2004 Report Posted May 20, 2004 Perhaps some don't like having cookies enabled. I haven't had the need for cookies in a long time, and using the basic slider for cookies in 'Internet Explorer' to get logged in, you end up with cookies from doubleclick, fastclick, gator and atdmt. I was sure I didn't need this JUNK so went into 'advanced' settings to block all third party cookies. How many will play with ADVANCED settings (for anything)? I know I didn't when I was new to computers. I have my browser set to minimal features to stop ads and other annoyances, it also helps with my low dial-up bandwidth. So for me to login and post I must turn on 'Active Scripting' and 'Cookies'. I'm used to turning Active Scripting on and off, so for me it's not a big inconvenience and I accept it. I understand the need to know that we 'are' who we say we are. There are sites that only allow membership if your E-mail is supplied by your ISP, not Hotmail etc. Would this give confirmation of peoples identity? I'm just thinking aloud. sundog Quote
Tormod Posted May 20, 2004 Report Posted May 20, 2004 I reckon it's time for a newsletter to invite everyone back and check out the new site. I'll see to it sometime next week...right now I'm too tired to worry about where everyone's gone. Tormod Quote
Freethinker Posted May 20, 2004 Report Posted May 20, 2004 You've done a good job Tormod. It looks good and as they say "build it and the people will come". Meanwhile "You are getting sleepy, you are getting very very sleepy.... " Quote
Tormod Posted May 20, 2004 Report Posted May 20, 2004 zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....uh...thanks, Freethinker. In fact, I am taking a few days off now and will spend them with my family and in-laws so I even I will be quiet for a few days. Then I have a list of bugfixes for next week and a lot of contenct updating to do, and THEN I'll kindly ask people back and we'll see... In my experience, things start to slow down around mid-May, and picks up again when school starts in late August, early September. By the way, did you know that Hypography turned 4 years on Monday (May 17). So in a year from now it's the 5th anniversary. The site has grown from (well, 0 obviously) around 200 visits per day to around 8,000 per day so I'm quite happy with it. I think there will ALWAYS be things which can be improved/fixed/redesigned/etc but sometimes enough is enough... Tormod Quote
Freethinker Posted May 20, 2004 Report Posted May 20, 2004 8,000 hits a day? Unique? Not bad. We need to draw more into discussions. Maybe I need to come up with some really attention grabbing subject lines. Viagra vs Cialis vs Levitra Making Exctasy at home The Passion, how many have died? Loch Ness Monster FOUND! Effective techniques for interegating prisoners daily ejactulation reduces prostate cancer Bible Code vs Koran Code Do science nerds make better lovers? 14 yr old proves god's existence Black holes replace internal combustion engine Procreation in a fluctuating vacuum universe Cialis, a 4 hour erection. Fact or fiction? Fuzzy logic for lesbians What do you think? Sex sells ya know. Quote
lindagarrette Posted May 20, 2004 Report Posted May 20, 2004 When I bring up the web site, it shows me logged on as Pandora but when I try to reply to a posting, I get the logon screen. It doesn't recognize Pandora as valid. So here I am as the other me.?? Quote
Frogon Posted May 20, 2004 Report Posted May 20, 2004 Do science nerds make better lovers? Wasnt that answered in "Revenge of the Nerds"? But, those are very important topics that we should discuss. And, I really like the new layout... Quote
Tormod Posted May 20, 2004 Report Posted May 20, 2004 Ah, Linda - You are a victim of the problems I have with external authentication for the forums. That was why the new forums were delayed, and eventually launched without having solved the problem. I have discussed it with the forums developer and we think the problem has been isolated. So sometime next week I will implement a new login procedure which makes everyone log in via the homepage (even if they click "log in" from the forums) and you will probably be Pandora once more. PAge impressions per day is usually between 20,000 and 40,000 depending on the traffic. Viagra vs Cialis vs Levitra Making Exctasy at home The Passion, how many have died? Loch Ness Monster FOUND! When I logged in to the new forums the first couple of times it kept opening a window I thought was asking for me to reregister. It was asking for the answer to what my mother's maiden name was. I assumed it was reregistration, but now I assume it was just filling in some blanks for the new system. I should probably use this chance to mention the pass word issue in changing profiles. It ALWAYS requires me to type "New" passwords. Even if i use the same one, I have to do a New Pass Word with confirmation even if all I want is a new avitar. Not that I can't ahndle that, but it is a touch annoying. Quote

Tormod Google is picky about content? With all the viagra ads they have? What I really got a kick oout of was when I went to the forums before logging in and there was a mess of ads along the left margin promoting a variety of god sites. Can we assume Christians are intentionally paying to have their sites posted on science sites? All said and done though Tormod, you deserve credit for doing all of this. Quote
Tim_Lou Posted May 20, 2004 Author Report Posted May 20, 2004 in this forum, ppl come and go.....like irisheye, tinny......well, only a couples stick to it... i think the problem is that there are not enough topics....arh...well, i dont know... i saw other forums that there are tons of posts everyday, is there something lacking in this forum?? maybe we should find a way to get more ppl in??? Tim_Lou Posted May 20, 2004 Author Report Posted May 20, 2004 like this topic, its just about opinions of new hypography......and see how many replies there are... Quote
Tormod Posted May 20, 2004 Report Posted May 20, 2004 Well, Tim, you do have a tendency to start new threads, which is very good. Others tend to join in on the longer debates, which is good too. We need more of both, I guess. Tormod Quote

I don't see the point of that...it will just clog up people's e-mail clients and also make them read everything there instead of coming here. Can't have that. Tormod Quote
