okay, just got my new avitar done. it only took me three hours, maybe four.

now how do i get the picture clearer, better, all that good stuff?

my wife took a picture of me with her digital camera

oh, and then i hooked it to the computer, down loaded, formatted and a whole bunch more crap.

took forever because the picture it program kept saving the picture too big, to use as an avitar,

after i made changes to it.

I think you can edit the photo in "Paintshop Pro" or in "Photoshop". I am not sure which one works better. But you can try if you have those.

If you want it clearer then take the photo closer to you face so that when you crop out anything you dont want you will be left with a higher resolution

yep

never used a digital camera before, never took any computer classes, and didn't read any directions.

Worst case scenario, you can crop and/or shrink the image useing MS Paint. To make the image sharper, as one suggested, have the picture taken closer to you. Another tip would be to have a bright source of light behind the camera so as to highlight you (make sure the camera and the person do not block the light). Last tip would be to take the highest quality/size of the picture. When it gets shrunk, the image is really sharp.
