Tormod Posted November 24, 2005 Report Posted November 24, 2005 If you were stranded on a lost island...which book would you miss the most? Feel free to list several, but highlight your ultimate choice. For me, I think it would be the collected works of William Shakespeare...but after reading Hamlet for the nth time I'd probably feel that northwestern wind... Quote
Jay-qu Posted November 25, 2005 Report Posted November 25, 2005 my notebook(laptop) well there is a few... but one standout is Space watching its by 6 different authors and I cant remember them  Quote
Turtle Posted November 25, 2005 Report Posted November 25, 2005 I have whittled my personal library down from hundreds of volumes to just 16 books. Of those I have an old (circa 1950's) everything in one handbook which has farming, cooking, tool use, etc. I would miss that one the most for practicality. For pleasure, I think I'd have to go with the Advanced College Algebra text; go figure. Quote
IrishEyes Posted November 26, 2005 Report Posted November 26, 2005 ONE??? You know, at first thought, it might be difficult to choose, since you all know how much I LOVE to read. But really, it's no choice at all. This is really a simple one, T. I'd want my Bible with me. Quote
Tormod Posted November 26, 2005 Author Report Posted November 26, 2005 I somehow knew that you would say that. I was actually thinking that I might bring the Bible as well - it should last quite some time. Quote

Erasmus00 Posted November 29, 2005 Report Posted November 29, 2005 The big black Misner, Wheeler, Thorne Gravitation text book. Thing is so full of information I could probably go for a long time without getting through everything. -Will Quote
herr_chris Posted February 4, 2006 Report Posted February 4, 2006 cyclopedia. because I think it's important,it can teach me how to live in the island.:singer: Quote
InfiniteNow Posted February 8, 2006 Report Posted February 8, 2006 I'd have to say: "Building Classic Small Craft : Complete Plans and Instructions for 47 Boats"by John Gardner Quote
Racoon Posted February 8, 2006 Report Posted February 8, 2006 I am gonna' choose the " US Army's Survival Guide " Teaches you how to build shelter, forage, hunt, stay concealed, and find h2o.Along with other survival tips.. and fishing lures!:Waldo: That, and a good spank Rag! :Waldo: Quote
InfiniteNow Posted February 8, 2006 Report Posted February 8, 2006 Ooh... and maybe the Tibetan Book of the Dead... so I'd have something to read after I've built my boat and launched myself back out to sea. :Waldo: Quote
Racoon Posted February 8, 2006 Report Posted February 8, 2006 Tibetan 'Book of the Dead",Now why didn't I think of that?Good call INfiniteNow. On second thought, I'll choose the I Ching Quote
InfiniteNow Posted February 8, 2006 Report Posted February 8, 2006 You know, Tormod's original question is really really really hard. I keep changing my mind. The whole boat building thing is just a joke really, but now I want to take Alan Lightman's "Einstein's Dreams." A collection of short fictional stories where time works differently in each... super easy and cool read. Quote
Racoon Posted February 8, 2006 Report Posted February 8, 2006 But then... Now I'll take along the "Tao of Jeet Kun Do" :Waldo: by the actor known as Bruce Lee. Fight off enemies on a deserted island! At least I can get in touch with my inner self Quote
InfiniteNow Posted February 13, 2006 Report Posted February 13, 2006 But then... Now I'll take along the "Tao of Jeet Kun Do" :) by the actor known as Bruce Lee. Fight off enemies on a deserted island! At least I can get in touch with my inner selfIf I were fighting off enemies on a deserted island, I think I'd prefer a much thicker book than the TJKD... you know, one which I could use to drop on their head from above and knock them out. :eek2: Preferably one with a few thousand pages and a hard cover... IrishEyes Posted February 13, 2006 Report Posted February 13, 2006 If I were fighting off enemies on a deserted island...Maybe I forgot what this word means, but if you were on one of those types of islands, what kind of enemies would be around to fight? I'll go with "Illusions; The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah", or "Jonathon Livingston Seagull" (both by Bach). Both are pretty quick reads if you just wanna finish. But then again, if you really want to read them, both could take you years to get through. Quote
InfiniteNow Posted February 13, 2006 Report Posted February 13, 2006 Maybe I forgot what this word means, but if you were on one of those types of islands, what kind of enemies would be around to fight?Touche. I think, however, this EXCELLENT point would be better directed to Racoon... Sorry bro... :eek2: Quote
