i also really love the guitar player that miles davis had in his Bitches brew sessions.

i remember tormod gave me some names of some a few months back,

but all of the songs i checked out were TOO 80s style for me to even get into.

i dont know what it is,

actually i know exactly what it is and i wont get into it!

but i hate 80s music.

all of that drowning wharehouse reverb on the drums! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Sorry I was away for this one, so catching up...

I was fortunate enough to live in LA at the right time: I spent many monday nights at "The Baked Potato" in Burbank back when Lee Ritenour had his regular gig there. Ditto Les Paul at the Empire in NYC...

Also majorly fond of Pat Metheny: his last tour through here was awesome...

Django R: did you know he had only two working fingers to do all those fireworks?

Long list you should check out:

John McLaughlin (esp early Mahavishnu Orchestra: Birds of Fire is my fave)

Larry Coryell (I gave my cousin Electric http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000A8AXIQ/qid=1136509908 for Xmas: its got wild jazz renditions of rock classics like Black Dog and Born Under a Bad Sign....)

Wes Montgomery: Coooooool.....Jazz....I get his version of Eleanor Rigby trapped in my brain occasionally and its quite pleasant....

Tal Farlow: Swing! not Schwing! Hot stuff!

Leo Kottke: Not technically jazz, but heck where *would* you put him?

Joe Pass: The Charlie Parker of Jazz Guitar

Charlie Christian: Also swing, but he invented jazz guitar....

Earl Klugh: Oh maybe to 80s for you, so's George Benson though, and can't leave these two off...

Al Di Meola: 80's but not 80's...

Charlie Byrd, Laurindo Almeida, Joao Gilberto: Bossa Nova Ahora! Although these guys all do *much* more too...

I could go on...

And now for something *completely* different, check out this Kaki King http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00008V5TI/qid=1136510115 album which I gave to my step-brother for xmas... Its not describable, and you really need to *see* her play http://www.kakiking.com/ (go to Audio&Video and scroll to the Conan performance) too....

Pickin' and Grinnin',

Grant Green and Les Paul are two of my favorites that haven't been mentioned.Les grew up in my hometown of Waukesha,Wisconsin.I delivered newspapers to his mother when I was about ten or so!I've been told she lived to be well over 100 yrs. old,and Les is still playing the occasional gig in N.Y.C.at 90 yrs.Les of course pioneered early multi-track recording and his electric guitar designs have stood the test of time.Oh yeah,I almost forgot:The f&^%*er can play!

Orbsycli, something tells me you might like the stylings of Oz Noy.The sound and video are bad but check it out(bottom right quad of page).

He's a good guitar player, but not great.

Not enough energy to be memorable.

There's something deep inside of me that's shouting

AYE

I CAN PLAY BETTER THAN THAT GUY:ud:

Les paul's amazing, i can't believe he's still at it!

I have a les paul standard, and the design is flawless.

The weight, the wood,

it's perfect.

Sounds so fat, :hihi:

I can go from arabian eerie plucks to the faintest jazz, drenched

with one pickup switch!

Such a versatile guitar, those les pauls are.

After owning one for years No Guitar feels or sounds as good as my les paul!

Except, you know...of course, something like a PRS hollow body blows my les paul out of the water,

if you're into that kind of thing. :)
