infamous Posted January 4, 2006 Report Posted January 4, 2006 Ah yes, but we still simply refer to it as "the moon". It seems so bland for the neighbor our lives depend on.I agree C1ay; I suggest the name: Romanicus Adverbial form of Latin "Romanicus" is equal to the word Romance Quote
Tarantism Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 i sort of like luna myself...but hey, thats just me. "i hereby name it, Luna!" i say to my mind. Quote
Boerseun Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 i sort of like luna myself...but hey, thats just me. "i hereby name it, Luna!" i say to my mind.A crazy person is someone who "is bothered by the moon".Hence the root of the word "lunatic". It could be said that all the scientists, technicians and astronoauts involved in the Apollo program were lunatics. Could the Greenpeace bunnyhuggers be described as Terratics or Gaiatics? Quote
TheBigDog Posted January 7, 2006 Report Posted January 7, 2006 You asking me what my name is mister? My name is Tom Cullen. Laws yes! M-O-O-N that spells Tom Cullen. The moon is named Tom Cullen. Bill TheFaithfulStone 1 Quote
Tarantism Posted January 7, 2006 Report Posted January 7, 2006 ah, but luna makes me think of sitting under a tree in the moonlight, in a field, at peace. luna. Quote
armofreek Posted January 7, 2006 Report Posted January 7, 2006 Luna ey? I like the name, but I think that the moon already has a name... it sounded something like THE MOON! It would be nice to call it a casual name though. it would make the moon more of a friend than an object revolving our planet smiling at us... Tarantism 1 Quote
Tarantism Posted January 7, 2006 Report Posted January 7, 2006 no, sir freek, a moon is a moon, and then there is the moon. we are discussing wheather or not it should infact have a different name other than moon. Quote
Boerseun Posted January 7, 2006 Report Posted January 7, 2006 Imagine if Hawaii was simply known as The Island. Sure, there are plenty islands, but Hawaii is the island. Same with the moon, I guess. And coming to think of it, the Earth as well. Nobody refers to Mars as "The Mars", do they? Tarantism 1 Quote
Tarantism Posted January 7, 2006 Report Posted January 7, 2006 oi veigh, i thought that the name ofthe earth was "the earth?" or just earth? thats confusing, i have never thought about it, but should the earth have a different name? i mean, you are right there mr. Boerseun! a nice topic. Quote
Buffy Posted January 7, 2006 Report Posted January 7, 2006 "The" Moon: "Luna""The" Earth: "Terra""The" Sun: "Sol"etc. if you really *want* to have names.... I think "The" is just fine. To quibble with Boerseun's comment, its actually "The *Big* Island" or just "Hawaii"...it was the Hao'le's that decided to make a "state" and call it Hawaii I think.... Then of course there are those Ukranians who made a big deal about insisting that people stop putting "The" in front of "Ukraine". I never quite understood this one... Nominally,Buffy Quote
MortenS Posted January 7, 2006 Report Posted January 7, 2006 I have also heard earth being referred to as Tellus. As I understand Tellus was the roman godess of the earth, and equivalent to the greek godess Gaia, or Terra Mater. Quote
bpjg2fat Posted January 8, 2006 Report Posted January 8, 2006 I speak for 'big cheese ball' you know! =D Quote

Loricybin Posted January 8, 2006 Report Posted January 8, 2006 spankey yodell named the moon while riding on a phoniestuck a feather in its surface and renamed it calcutta the second:confused: Quote
Jay-qu Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Its the same with our sun, other stars have names like Sirius or Bellatrix and we have the sun... I have heard it called sol, but I think that it is just the latin word for sun or star...:hihi: Quote
