Please vote in the poll. Please be honest, The results may substantiate a hypothesis I have regarding the members of this forum.

There's a problem Unc; I'm ambidextrous and there's no option for me

What kind of ideas do you have about left and right handedness? btw a few months somebody told me that apart from handedness you also have left and right 'footedness'. The basic test here is: if you kick a ball which foot will you use? there is not always an overlap with your handedness...

Unc,

I write right, eat left, golf left, used to smoke left, drink right, kick right, lead left when doing gymnastics, left foot first in clothing. However, i can also eat right and write left, and do most things passably well reverse of what 'feels natural'. My younger brother is a natural leftie, as is my youngest child. All others in my family are 'right'. I'm the only one, that I'm aware of, that has the ability to choose. However, even though I have always had the ability to do most things with either hand, I strengthened my skill with my left 12 years ago when my right arm was in a cast for 6 months. Sorry, but I'm probably not a very good test case for your hypothesis. My mother told me that I was always able to do most things with either limb, but I can remember a teacher forcing me to use my right to write. Public education - Go figure!

Bo,

You are correct about footedness(is that a word?), I kick with the opposing foot from my handedness(Again?). As to my hypothesis, please don't expect much, as this is VERY informal. I regret that until the poll has reached a respectable size that my indicating my thoughts would possibly influence the vote.

IrishEyes,

Sounds like you are ambidextrous, that is now an option so feel free to join in. That is something that I inadvertantly ignored and GAHD was good enough to point out my oversight.

I apologize for my short posts of late, but a new job is taking too much of my time. This will not be an ongoing problem.

Hey, you started this thread, you can always find a new job. Anyone that can read in your state has to be a premium in the job market! Still got most of your teeth?

I'll try to add that option. My apologies for not considering that. Are you sure you don't favor one even a little?

No apologies needed, most don't think of it. As for favoring, I;

-eat with either depending on mood.

-write with my right so I don't smudge but I can write left if I feel the urge, and did so while I was dabbling with Japaneise.

-draw with both at once and/ or in sequence.

-use the mouse with my right usually because it's designed for right-handedness.

-throw left for accuracy and power, but shoot basketballs with either depending on the advantage.

-kick with either depending on where the ball comes from or what step i'm in.

-smoke with either depending on mood.

-use scissors right because most are right-handed.

-drink with either depending on mood, and where the table is in relation to me.

I don't think I 'favor' any one in specific, but my left arm is stronger than my right; roughly 5lbs more grip & lifting.

Ops. Seems I'm missing 41% of my braiin!

Wow!! That's really shocking to the rest of us!!!

;~P

And thanks, Unc, that's my one up there for ambi. Don't know where Gahd ran off to...?

And now my '2'. I've been busy with work and a few different favors for friends. Monday I moved a boat, and my traps still hurt from lifting that hitch and pulling/carrying the trailor across the yard and out into the back lane to attach it to a truck. Then Tuesday I helped another friend install some shelves in his house. Both of these I did after doing midnight shifts at my new job (payroll loans/Sonic Payday for anyone wondering), so I've been a little too tired to post.

To quote my testcafe results;

Your percentage score for the right brain is 28%.

Your percentage score for the left brain is 25%.

You are more right-brained than left-brained. The right side of your brain controls the left side of your body. In addition to being known as right-brained, you are also known as a creative thinker who uses feeling and intuition to gather information. You retain this information through the use of images and patterns. You are able to visualize the "whole" picture first, and then work backwards to put the pieces together to create the "whole" picture. Your thought process can appear quite illogical and meandering. The problem-solving techniques that you use involve free association, which is often very innovative and creative. The routes taken to arrive at your conclusions are completely opposite to what a left-brained person would be accustomed. You probably find it easy to express yourself using art, dance, or music. Some occupations usually held by a right-brained person are forest ranger, athlete, beautician, actor/actress, craftsman, and artist.

So apparently I am slightly left dominant, and I'm missing a whopping 47% of my brain!

Here are my test results:

Your percentage score for the left brain is 38%.

Your percentage score for the right brain is 36%.

You are more left-brained than right-brained. Your left brain controls the right side of your body. In addition to being known as left-brained, you are also known as a critical thinker who uses logic and sense to collect information. You are able to retain this information through the use of numbers, words, and symbols. You usually only see parts of the "whole" picture, but this is what guides you step-by-step in a logical manner to your conclusion. Concise words, numerical and written formulas and technological systems are often forms of expression for you. Some occupations usually held by a left-brained person include a lab scientist, banker, judge, lawyer, mathematician, librarian, and skating judge.

Which means that, so far, I am missing the least amount of my brain, right? LOL

ok, just for analytical sake I made an assumption; that site takes the responces and awards 'points' to 2 different catagories based on how you answer. To check this I simply answered "often" to every question and received the results

Your percentage score for the right brain is 50%.

Your percentage score for the left brain is 46%.

then to re-verify I answered every question as 'rarely' and received the results

Your percentage score for the left brain is 4%.

Your percentage score for the right brain is 0%.

Leading me to the conclusion that my hypothisis was correct! However, I would also postulate that one or more questions awards/removes 2%-4% to one side for either 'Often or Some' and the other side for 'Occasionally or Rarely'. I think whoever came up with this thinks better of their programming prowess than is warrented.

edit: by these results I can assume IE is slightly more prone to feeling things 'often' while FT&I are more prone to answering 'some' or 'occasionally' respectively

Very good. Yes you are correct. I am not an "Absolutist". I only "occasionally" would use "rare" or "often". :-)

While Irish, being one that openly states the "Absolute" opinion of her god's existence regardless of lacking ANY substance behind it. (yes I know you have stated that there is the possibilty your god myth is such, but you also state you blindly accept anyway)
