Electrorheological Fluids

I need to know the physics behind this, and what the uses are - to a level of high school or college knowledge. If anyone could explain how it works, or point me in the right direction in finding easy to understand information, then that will be much appreciated. I have already searched on the internet, but I can't find much that I understand.
