TheBigDog Posted February 12, 2006 Report Posted February 12, 2006 Since when are Norway and the Netherlands two different countries? And how about Denmark, isn't that part of Netherway too? Doesn't that put the medal count at somenthing like 10? The Ugly American Quote
alexander Posted February 13, 2006 Report Posted February 13, 2006 no, denmark is a country located north of germany, south west of sweeden and south of norway, it is still a constitutional monarchy, it is located on a peninsula just north of germany, it is located across the north sea from norway, therefore it would be hard to even consider it a part of norway, you'd be better off guessing that its a part of germany.... netherlands also borders north sea, germany and belgium, also happens to be a constitutional monarchy, and once again you would be better off guessing that it is a part of germany, but yet again, it was hardly ever that, it was a part of the roman empire, never was a part of prussia, so therefore the only time it was controlled by germans was WWI and WWII, kinda similar case with denmark, so.... pgrmdave Posted February 13, 2006 Report Posted February 13, 2006 I think that the US is poised to win the most medals, and most likely the most gold medals. However, the only sport that I really watch is hockey, and I don't think that the US will win men's or women's. Canada looks to be an very strong contender for them. Quote

Tormod Posted February 13, 2006 Report Posted February 13, 2006 Lefse!!!! This is probably a national crime but hey what we do for friends. :eek2: Lefse RecipeNorwegian Bread Ingredients:1 1/2 c Boiling water2 tb Butter1/2 ts Salt1 c Rye flour1 c All-purpose flour1 c Whole wheat flour Directions:Preheat oven to 450f. In a large bowl, combine water, butter, salt, rye flour and all-purpose flour and beat well. Stir in whole wheat flour and beat until you have a smooth dough that resembles dough for a baking powder biscuit. Divide dough into 4 parts. Cut each portion into quarters. Flour a board and roll each piece of dough to make a thin 10- to 12-inch circle. If desired, use lefse rolling pin to make a pattern on the dough. Place 2 or 3 dough circles on ungreased baking sheet. Bakein preheated oven 3 to 5 minutes--NOT until completely browned. Cool on a rack. Wrap airtight. Quote
IrishEyes Posted February 13, 2006 Report Posted February 13, 2006 Only at a science forum, in a topic about the winter Olympics, will you find a recipe for Norwegian bread... :eek2: Love live Hypography, keeper of the happy tummies worldwide! Quote
alexander Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 wow you guys, white bread not really good for any diet, although i need to get a recepie of this flat bread i've been byung from a moldovan woman, she makes it crazy good, maybe she'll share the recepie, although i doubt that :) but its soo incredibly good, literaly, you could eat the entire flat bread just cuz it is so good, and then exercise for 3-4 hours to work off the bread :eek2: Quote
Tormod Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 PS How much wax is under the label of Jarlsberg? Do you just peel the label over in Norway, or cut down a bit after peeling the label? Please excuse my cheesy ignorance.:) :D Way too much! :) We peel it off, yeah. Oh, and our women's curling team beat the US team 11-4 yesterday. HEhehehehe. :eek2: Quote
Tormod Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 We just got three more medals... silver in the men's cross country sprint and silver and bronze in the 10K biathlon. Seems the gold medals aren't pouring in like last time...but we still rule on the medal count. :eek2: Congrats to SWEDEN for snatching the two golds in the cross country sprint! Both men's and women's. 12 years since their last gold in a Winter Olympics (ice hockey at Lillehammer, Norway, IIRC)! Quote
Tormod Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 My Grandmother loves it! And My goal is to make the perfect Lesfe...??Perhaps I will have to travel to Norway to find the Secret Key... Any time, Racoon. :eek2: Quote
Drip Curl Magic Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 oh, jeez.... I have no idea who to root for.... Since I live in the US I am always compelled to root for the home team. But I've also got tons of heritage. I'm an 8th Norweigen, so I gotta root for them (especially since they are leading in medal count ATM :)) But I also love Canada so much. Beautiful place, beautiful people, beautiful culture. Ugh, I'm torn, so I ended up voting for Japan. Why? I dunno :eek2: Quote
Tormod Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 I like Sports Illustrated's medal list - they list by number of medals and not by number of golds: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/olympics/2006/medals/tracker/ Way to go USA for taking the alpine compined gold! Quote
Tormod Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 We got both silver and bronze in the women's 10K cross country today. ;) But the curling team isn't doing too well (and they are the defending champions). Quote
