BluesMan Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 Our current culture and resulting policies in US Health Care use the label “DNR” or Do Not Resuscitate for patients who do not want artificial ventilation or chest compressions if their heart or respirations stop. There is a movement toward the utilization of the term “AND” or Allow Natural Death as an alternative. The most cited reason in my experience has been DNR has a negative perception and appears to be withholding something from our patients, where AND is a natural course. What are your opinions concerning this change? Are there obvious benefits or errors to this? Quote
TheBigDog Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 AND (Allow Natural Death) is a scary name. Use something that seems pleasant to make people think that life and death are really the issue. SMORS sounds pleasant, like a snack (Share My Organs - Release Soul). Bill Quote
GAHD Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 what about NIO (Non Intrusive Only)? There's something I'm thinking about tattooing on my chest. I'm just scared that they'll try to carve me up to get some drunkard a new set of kidneys and a liver. *shudder* Nothing's really in a name; if it lets some people relax, great. If they die, that's their choice and great for the world's population. Quote
