Another Bioethics question.

What is your feeling regarding allowing patients the autonomy to practice theological beliefs that may not be accepted medical practice in a hospital?

How about when you know their practice may interfere with their traditional care.

Examples

Wicken ceremonies

Native American Peyote ingestion

Rastafarian cannabis

Gosh, BluesMan,

I guess this isn't a very fun topic.

It's funny but this reminds me of the Anthrax Scare in Wash.D.C. and Boston a few years ago. With the threat of imminent death over so many heads, visits to conventional doctors shot up as expected. But purchases of "holistic medicines" and accupuncture went down! What does that say about people's "beliefs"?

Maybe they don't believe as hard as they say they do. Hmmm?
