Until viewing the linked-to site in post #1, I thought countries that criminalized “holocaust denial”, such as Germany, were overreacting. After seeing it, I realize I was naïve in this opinion.

The site is a competently produced example of what is referred to as “hate speech”. As serious history or political commentary, it is laughable – the hypotheses that essentially every terrorist act of the 20th and 21st centuries are the actions of a secret conspiracy of Israeli nationals and sympathizers, or any single group, for that matter – is both far-fetched and thoroughly debunked. As a means of invoking strong emotion, the site is very effective.

The emotion it invoked in me was disgust bordering upon physical illness. I regret even being aware such a website exists, let alone having viewed it, and consider it on a par with child snuff pornography. That people exist who find such a site in some way invigorating, uplifting, and something they would like to share in a public forum, horrifies me.

Politically, I have many objections to the policies of the state of Israel, so my reaction to this material cannot, I think, be considered knee-jerk sympathizing. I know some avowed racists who I consider decent people, and to whom I bear no ill will, so don’t think my reaction a knee-jerk reaction to racism.

In a society that champions freedom of speech, defining “hate speech” is problematical. However, to borrow a famous phrase from former US Supreme Count Justice Potter Stewart, "I know it when I see it."

The linked-to site in this thread is hate speech. I have come to strongly suspect that Solve et Coagula (a Latin phrase translatable as “destroy and rebuild”) is a profoundly hateful person, inappropriate for membership at Hypography.

I applaud the banning of Solve: he has free rein on some other websites to spread his hate.

That said, I trust the banning was for the content of his site coupled with the failure to attempt to open up any discussion, and not for his Colin Powell quote. In short, I am seeking confirmation that criticism of Israeli policies is acceptable on Hypography.

I really did want to talk about Mossad Black ops!

Those guys are hard core.

No political, cultural or religious hate. No anti-sematism :hyper:

I heard the Mossad have infiltrated practically every terrorist group and organization. :hyper:

The airport in Tel Aviv is so well secured by these guys.

Just think of all the terrorist threats they Neutralize!!

The Intelligence they gather. Their weapons are brutal. Training totally Elite.

Remember when They stormed that hijacked plane back in the 80's?

I was just a simple circiut then. :hyper:

Criticise and opine all you want but remember, we are here for discussion, not to be lectured. Hit and run posts like Solve's will not be tolerated.

As long as it’s done in a reasonable and evidence-supported way, I believe the policies of any nation, organization, or individual are acceptable subjects for criticism and discussion at hypography. In my post ”A brief history of Israel”, I stated my disapproval of the creation of the state of Israel (which is not the same as a refusal to acknowledge their statehood, now), without anyone expressing disapproval or calling me an anti-semite.

That said, I disapprove of organizations that break any nation’s laws against murder, be it the mafia, the CIA, or Mossad. Despite the romantic “James Bond” appeal of the tactic of assassination, I’ve seen no evidence that it improves security, and strongly suspect that it has just the opposite effect, provoking retaliatory assassinations and bombings.

I believe there is a tendency to credit Mossad with every success in Israeli security, particularly the admirably low incidence of hijacking of Israel’s national airline, El Al. Although Mossad’s Collections, Research departments, supply El Al and others with vital intelligence, while its Technology department provides valuable assistance in screening devices, etc., its Special Ops (Metsada) division, which most people think of when you mention Mossad, isn’t involved in routine security, such as El Al’s. El Al’s security staff, including armed uniformed and undercover flight crew agents, are airline staff. That nearly all adult Israelis have received basic combat training as part of compulsory military service, is also a factor.

Scientific analysis of security shows, I believe, that the public safety of citizens of all nations is best served through hard work by intelligence gatherers and analysts (including members of Mossad), screeners, police and security agents, and the diligence of regular citizens, all acting in accordance with the law. In my opinion, the extra-legal/illegal killing of leaders and/or suspected criminals does not. I don’t believe organizations such as Metsada should be permitted to exist, any more than Al Qaeda should be, and applaud the efforts of individuals and organizations seeking to peacefully and lawfully eliminate them.

Well said CraigD.

But Israel needs the Mossad like the USofA needs NSA.

They are trying to maintain their existence in an Exponentially populated

Sphere

They have to be really smart people.
