Queso Posted February 18, 2006 Report Posted February 18, 2006 "You can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant." Some of you are probably familiar with the 'ol Arlo Guthrie Tune, "alice's restaurant" Well, I was driving yesterdayand right there in the middle of the mountainsthere it was!Alice's restaurant! On skyline Blvd. I had no idea that song was about that place that is so close to me! Queso Posted February 18, 2006 Author Report Posted February 18, 2006 skyline blvd runs all along the santa cruz mountains, into palo alto....and so on. I havn't really been down there that far. the hells angels used to hang out up there a lot,too much acid caused them to drive right off Highway 9, though. Must have felt so good to panic mid-air.True knowledge that states yes, you are going to die in a matter of moments. Anyways, Odd place.Didn't know the song was named after that place until today. Queso Posted February 18, 2006 Author Report Posted February 18, 2006 hah, i wouldn't know. What i do know though, is this: Imagine a bad-*** biker gang invited to a (FIRST EVER OF ITS KIND) psychdelic party out in the woods. And within a matter of hours all of those guys, tough as rocks, are running around laughing, playing with flowers. ahhhh the magnificence of LSD. Of course, in groups Drugs lead to Drugs.and now they make the best crank.*sigh Quote
Racoon Posted February 18, 2006 Report Posted February 18, 2006 That would be funny to see all those Harley-ridin', tatted-up, heavily bearded Outlaws in leather lookin' at all the pretty flowers. :D Flower Power! Haven't seen any good acid 'round this neck of the woods in years. :D I remember my last Acid trip. Went up to Bagby Hot Springs, somewhat up the mountains. Years ago.....hmmmm....Hot mineral water baths right out of the springs! Geothermal and everything. :) 'shrooms dude?.. looking for some Loricybins? Got what yer' needing... Quote
Rincewind Posted February 18, 2006 Report Posted February 18, 2006 "You can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant.""'ceptin' Alice." :) Possible thread hijack here :D ... I was at a musical evening at the home of the music teacher at the school I teach at just before Christmas, and the subject of Alice's Restaurant came up in conversation. I foolishly admitted to having known it and played it (on guitar, singing) back in uni days in the 70s. Next thing I know, someone's gone and downloaded the full lyrics, printed them out and passed three pages chock-a-block full of typing to me, and said, "There you go, then." So, anyway, I sang the thing, beginning to end, for the first time in about 30 years. It's amazing how much just comes back to you -- all the guitar rifflets (to coin an expression:)) and stuff. I even managed the "thispieceofpapersgotfortysevenwordsthirtysevensentences..." bit in one breath at the first attempt -- I automatically just stopped and took a super-deep breath just before it. Anyway, it was fun, it went over really well, and I just thought I'd share that with you. :D Turtle 1 Quote
Boerseun Posted February 19, 2006 Report Posted February 19, 2006 I was at a restuarant the other day that advertised "Breakfast at any time." So I ordered an omelette during the French Revolution. Quote
Buffy Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 I had no idea that song was about that place that is so close to me! Anybody ever been there?:doh:Yes, but not since I was at Berkeley, so its been a very very long time. The song pre-dated the restaurant, restaurant was named after the song.... Oh geez now you've got me in flashbacks... I got brand new pair of rollerskates, :) Buffy Quote
