Racoon Posted February 26, 2006 Report Posted February 26, 2006 I know this has been thrown around in some threads. But I haven't found one on just PopulationOverpopulation, Population and Homosexuality,Stupid Population,,etc.. Global Human Population is supposed to hit 6.5 Billion within the next day or so!!! :) :) Thats a lot of people. Without going into Bad or Good...What does this mean?? Human Population will then seem to Grow at an Exponential Rate.(and I think it has been)How do they Even Track these Numbers?? :hyper: Overcrowding will definitely be a problem. Resource use, etc....But, 6.5 BILLION people also means a lot of Brain Potential. :) Thats a Lot of Souls  ; if you beleive in that.It could be a good thing if we Balance that number with Nature. It could be a bad thing too if we don't.. 6.5 BILLION! that number just seems Unfathomable!!! :) :hyper: utterly huge! I mean thats like McDonalds making a Burger for every human on the Planet!;) I mean a Million seems like a lot. and it is. A million $1 dollar bills placed end to end would circle the equator!I also heard that we could give everyone on the planet their own square Kilometer in Texas! (so maybe there is room) Hear that InfiniteNow? We're gonna' move everyone on Earth to Texas. It'll be one big Brain Storm! :) 6.5 BILLION!!!?? Big Number.. :) :hyper: whoa... Any thoughts?? Quote

Racoon Posted February 26, 2006 Author Report Posted February 26, 2006 radius of earth 6,378.1, surface area = 4*pi*r^2 gives 511,201,962km^2 unless texas is home to some weird spatial distortions, I dont think so... this means for every sq km there is 12 people! and thats including ocean... Maybe it was their own acre... Still, Texas is so big that the worlds Population could stuffed out there. :hyper: Given that, How many people Can this Earth accomodate??Seeing that population will only grow exponentially... Quote
Jay-qu Posted February 26, 2006 Report Posted February 26, 2006 well earths land space is just 153mil km^2... so with everyone on land thats 42 people per sq km, how much space does every person need? its to hard to assign a person an alloted amount of space and then consider roads, public parks and business areas etc... It would be easiest to put everyone into a computer simulated world like the matrix! that would solve out space problems! Quote
InfiniteNow Posted February 26, 2006 Report Posted February 26, 2006 You think 6.5 B sounds like a big number? Look at population again in 2010... it'll seem tiny. Quote
Queso Posted February 26, 2006 Report Posted February 26, 2006 You think 6.5 B sounds like a big number? Look at population again in 2010... it'll seem tiny. ew. a part of me wants to say that we should stop curing diseases so we don't totally screw ourselves over, but at the same timeEven though I won't be able toI want to see what happens. I can predict, and it's so hilarious. Our triumph,WIPED OUT. too bad I can't laugh at that THEN, but i Can Now. Quote
InfiniteNow Posted February 26, 2006 Report Posted February 26, 2006 too bad I can't laugh at that THEN, but i Can Now.No worries... it's the same thing. :hyper: Quote
Queso Posted February 26, 2006 Report Posted February 26, 2006 Hah, of course of course.I need to stop looking at time as such a Linear dimension. Quote
TheBigDog Posted February 26, 2006 Report Posted February 26, 2006 I can predict, and it's so hilarious. Our triumph,WIPED OUT.Wait until you see the triumphs of those who will meet the challenges of 7, 8, 10, 20 billion people. And there will be innovative heros that make those numbers happen. Unless Ayn Rand and UncleAl are correct and all the geniuses quit and let the uninitiated fall into oblivion, waiting to pick up the pieces afterward once their gifts are appreciated again. Who has the authority to determine what the population of the world is allowed to be? Bill Quote
CraigD Posted February 26, 2006 Report Posted February 26, 2006 … Overpopulation, Population and Homosexuality,Stupid Population,,etc....Any thoughts??I think Silverberg’s 1971 novel ”The World Inside” was an excellent fictional exploration of a very large (75 billion) world population, one that has stuck with me since I has a youngster. I’m personally inclined to TheBigDog’s optimism for the future, rather than orbsycli’s and Malthus’s pesimism, and see exponential population growth as being one of humanities (and biological life in general’s) greatest strengths, particularly if we become more adept in the near future at living other places than Earth – see my post ”Sheer human fecundity” and ”Relevance of space elevators in a 1,000,000 times more energy rich civilization” in Skywyze’s “Colonizing the Solar System” thread. Jay-qu Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 our population is getting bigger - if the rate of geniuses stays the same we should get more, and with our better schooling they should be more easily identified.. so maybe that will help us find a solution.. Quote
