While there are authorities among us which have power over us, yes, then freedom is something given.

Ah... well, it seems clear to me now that the confusion and uncertainty you have is due to your personal definition of freedom.

You seem to see it as a "jailor/detainee" dichotemy, but the only place freedom exists is within yourself, once you have recognized and looked past your self imposed illusions. I don't claim that this is some easy process, nor that I myself have achieved it, but that's freedom... A self unrestrained by fear and falsehoods, living in the moment and just being.

Freedom belongs to each of us by devine right (for lack of a better phrase). We are free to act in any fashion or do whatever it is we choose to do. But we are also the owners of the consequences to those acitons. So we temper our own freedom to the things that will keep us within certain bounds. If you are willing to pay any price for outragious action, then you are no more free than a man who lives in fear and does nothing. You simply choose a differnt path.

There is tyranny in the world too, where people are more limited in their choices that do not result in harsh, imbalanced consequences. When people have no say in the formationn of those governing rules they have had their freedoms artificially abridged. And they are not as free as those who have a say in the formation of the rules they are governed by.

Democracy and capitalism is the best combination for freedom.

Wah!! I am overhelmed with the response.

Let me now share my thoughts.

Yes, we all feel the lack of freedom while living in a society, social concerns, family concerns, moral concerns all add up towards limiting our freedom, that is, what we can do.

But, even if all these limitations were not there, that is, in the idyllic situation when one can survive alone in a distant corner, away from everybody, can we be free even then?

No, there is another dimension, and that is imposed by our genetic disposition. If one want to excel in a sports or a profession, one cannot do so always, our body, our mental disposition comes in the way.:hihi:
