Howza.

This is a thread that's gonna raise some tempers 'n stuff, I'm sure. But bear with me.

What's the deal with tattoos and piercings?

Is it right to 'decorate' your body with stuff you can't get off?

Are you aware of the fact that pretty soon we're gonna be seeing some real old people tattood with the dumbest things that was considered cool back in the day?

If you tattoo something that's a hit right now, and you don't dig it in another ten years, when you 'outgrow' your youthful tastes, well, tough. Laser therapy will never get it out properly.

All these girls with these huge Maori designs on their lower backs (because it goes 'well' with these hipster pants thats all the rage now, are gonna be real sorry when they have to explain that no, the Maoris didn't paint those vertical stripes, those are actually stretch marks, darling. It's gonna look real silly when the fashion changes again (as it will).

Imagine them when they're eighty... shudder...

I, for one, think its dumb. I don't have the posters on my walls that I had years ago when I was still in school. And a good thing, too, 'cause with a bit more maturity under the belt and some hindsight, they were really dumb posters. Same with tats. Sorry. I can't stand the stuff, and I don't, well, 'get' it.

Somebody care to explain the other side to me?

I agree 100% with you. I don't think it is bad to do henna "tatoos", you know, those which come off after 2-3 weeks, but permanent ones are a waste of money, imho.

A girl/boy doesn't have to have tatoos to look sexy. And when they are older, they will probably regret it. Same for piercings. I know a cousin who pierced her tongue. What will she do when she's 40? Have an operation to take it off because she is fed up with it?

Not the other side but. . . . tattoos are the main route of transmission for hepatitis C in Japan and presumably an important route elsewhere in fashion conscious cultures. The problem seems to come not just from the sterilisation of needles but from contamination of inks. Considering the appalling ignorance of general practitioners in the UK and US concerning hepatitis C, the disease's problematic symptomatology and unreliable treatment, I would suggest that a person consider seriously the benefits they expect to accrue from a tattoo and carefully weigh the odds.

Oddly I agree with Boerseun. :)

Tattoos are a sign of insecurity.

Ask a professional psychologist

Piercings are a little different. They are ornamentation.

but could cause unnecessary infection

Getting tongue's pierced can result in heart valve damage.

Don't do stupid sh^t, 'cuz it's not original or cool.

Only Samoans should be heavily tatted up.

I personally have no tattoos. I have seen too many bad ones to even think getting a tat is that cool??

To each his own.......:hihi:

So this girl's got this perfectly flat tummy with a hint of a six-pack coming through. She's got the perfect tan, the whole shebang, and then as your eyes approvingly follow the lines towards what you'd expect to be the perfect belly-button (perfect, if the rest of the package is anything to go by), you notice this little shiny thing dangling off what would've been the perfect belly-button. BOOM!!! Perfection out the door. It irritates me no end!

Girls - take note!

Belly buttons are great the way they are!!! Don't pierce them!!!

What are tattoos and piercings? A sign of insecurity? A sign that you're not happy with your bod?

- SUBJECTIVITY DISCLAIMER -

This post is the author's subjective opinion, and does not proclaim to be anything more than that.

An extension of our desire to stand out and be noticed, recognized by members of the opposite sex. I dig chicks with bellly button rings, tongue rings, tats above their hiney's... I dated a chick with a nose ring once...

To each their own, no?

When I was in 7th grade, my mom talked me into getting my ear pierced. It was cool, but I took it out after a few years. Then, when I got to college, got a tattoo. I wasn't some dumb **** who tattooed a girls name or rock band album cover, but something meaningful that would stand the test of time. It was a bit addicting. The adrenaline rush was intense. Sitting there for like 2 hours with a needle poking the same spot over and over again... the pain response was awesome!!

I wanted to go get another one the next week! Luckily, I didn't have enough money. :eek2: You are right about sagging skin not being so great about tattoos, but hopefully by that age, the individual will have learned how to better express themselves...

So, am I the only one who's gonna come out on the other side of this issue?

Cheers.

How would you know that it will stand the test of time?

My crystal ball told me, of course. :eek2:

Your mother rocks, by the way.

Thanks. Like all parents and children, we have our issues, but she certainly has her cool and righteous moments.

Cheers.

I don't agree entirely.

I'm a big fan of tattoos and piercings.

And as for Peircings.... they aren't permanent. If you don't want it anymore.... take it out.... and the hole will close up. No big deal.

Although, I do believe that if you are going to get a tattoo, that you should think LONG and HARD about what you're gonna get. You can't get something that you're gonna get tired of looking at in ten years, 20 years, 50 years.

It's gotta be something special.

My first tattoo is gonna be of an atom.

simple enough.... but I like the idea of being reminded of the simple break down of everything.

It means a lot to me.

I also want to get bass and treble clefs somewhere on my body.

Because I am obsessed with music.

The vibrant vibration of sound waves buzzing in my bones.

It's beautiful.

I'm also a very big fan of art.

And with tattoos.... you can get amazing pieces of art eternalized on your body. I want to get some of Alex Grey's art tattooed on my body.

Along with Salvador Dali's work.

And I also want to design a couple of my tattoos. Just small symbols and stuff that means something to me.

I mean, why not customize your body? I think EVERYTHING should be considered a canvas for potential art.

Atleast, that's the way I see it.

I do understand where you are all coming from, though.

I've seen some REALLY stupid tattoos.

haha, bpj g 2fat probably has the most ridiculous tattoo I've ever seen.

oh well, more power to him for sporting such a silly visual on his body.:hihi:

Insecurity is definately an issue.

But I don't modify my body because of a deep rooted insecutity.

I do it for the same reason that I paint my VW bus with colorful designs and little alien creatures.

number 1- it looks pretty.

number 2- It's less boring.

number 3- because I can.

___Me or Boerseun can make you a branding iron in the bass cleff & you can burn it in. No woory of contaminated ink or long drawn out sessions. Yeah baby; scarify that son of a gun. Reusable too! :hihi: Yeah that's the special ticket!:hihi:
