Boerseun Posted April 13, 2006 Author Report Posted April 13, 2006 Okay - more history, not science, but cool nonetheless: The BIGGEST diamond ever found, the Cullinan diamond, was shipped off to England to form part of the Crown Jewels. The thing is, by the time they shipped it, the news of the humungous diamond has travelled, and they were scared of thieves coming to steal it! So they sent a couple of Scotland Yard's Finest to South Africa to accompany the little box with the diamond in back to England, on a steamship. They made a fine performance of guarding the diamond in transit, all hush-hush and secret, and foiled a couple of theft attempts on the way! ...whilst the actual diamond was posted in a simple box to England via the Royal Mail! Unguarded! The box the cops were protecting had a blob of molten, dirty glass inside! Remember, the thing was still uncut, even the Bobbies didn't know the truth! So one day, a few months later, the postman delivered an inconspicuous box to Scotland Yard, worth millions of pounds! History is cool! Quote
Racoon Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 History is cool! At least we can agree on something. I thought Tormod was going to add a History forum? :eek2: Maybe after he gets back from all that Space Mumbo-Jumbo  Quote

Remember, the thing was still uncut, even the Bobbies didn't know the truth!Somewhat like the reason armoured vehicles are called "tanks". They wanted to ensure the secret right up until deployment on the field, so they had most of the people involved in the production and shipment thinking they were some special new kind of tank, and the name stuck. DFINITLYDISTRUBD Posted April 16, 2006 Report Posted April 16, 2006 Tall persons that marry short persons tend to have back problems.Ex. I'm 6'2" Sweetie is 4'10" just getin a smooch requires quite a lot of bend of the ol spine. Multiply that times many many times a day....sore back. DFINITLYDISTRUBD Posted April 16, 2006 Report Posted April 16, 2006 The water in Erie county Pa. caries known carcinogens! (The triannual water reports clearly state it!) I am even certain of the source most of the grape farmers (which is pretty much every farmer in the region) use a pestide which is known to cause cancer. ( I know most of them personally or indirectly through friends or family) Further proof though I can't actually prove it are the deaths (due to cancer) of pets (including every pet I've ever had) , the massive tumors on my present pet (a wolf/husky hybrid) and the tumors on the fish in lake Erie and it's tributaries. Which I guess proves the argument that the mass poisoning of insects poisons us all. Racoon 1 Quote
