although civilization as we know it can not exist without religion, it is the opium for the people, and ways of controlling others, and therefore i strongly disagree with it, however i do not beleive in god, i do beleive that it could not be possible for a such a diety to exist, hypothetically, (not in any shape of a human however)...

I didn't bother mentioning all the things driving us forward as a culture, as there are certainly many, but you are certainly correct that there is at least one other factor "deterring" us.

I believe that most people (in the USA) spend their time getting information like they get their entertainment. They don't read any more.

 

I believe that our schools do not (typically) teach folks how to engage in rational and productive analysis, but merely how to go for the "cheap shot".
