Queso Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 it's NOT an illusion. It is a label us humans put on Positive compilation of the assessment of what we call "emotions" Quote

ughaibu Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 If reality is an illusion and happiness is an illusion, maybe happiness is real. Quote

ughaibu Posted March 10, 2006 Report Posted March 10, 2006 Real is within the reality famously described as an illusion by Einstein in the quote to which I alluded. Quote
InfiniteNow Posted March 10, 2006 Report Posted March 10, 2006 Your post's subject line reminded me of this song... As I walk this land with broken dreamsI have visions of many thingsLove's happiness is just an illusionFilled with sadness and confusion,What becomes of the broken heartedWho had love that's now departed?I know I've got to findSome kind of peace of mindMaybe. The fruits of love grow all aroundBut for me they come a tumblin' down.Every day heartaches grow a little strongerI can't stand this pain much longerI walk in shadowsSearching for lightCold and aloneNo comfort in sight,Hoping and praying for someone to careAlways moving and goin to whereWhat becomes of the broken heartedWho had love that's now departed?I know I've got to findSome kind of peace of mindMaybe.I'm searching though I don't succeed,But someone look, there's a growing need.Oh, he is lost, there's no place for beginning,All that's left is an unhappy ending. Now what's become of the broken-heartedWho had love that's now departed?I know I've got to findSome kind of peace of mindI'll be searching everywhereJust to find someone to care.I'll be looking everydayI know I'm gonna find a wayNothings gonna stop me nowI'll find a way somehowI'll be searching everywhere Quote

Pyrotex Posted March 10, 2006 Report Posted March 10, 2006 Your post's subject line reminded me of this song...Jimmy Ruffin...God that takes me back a lot of years.I love that song, haven't heard it in decades. Thanks, InfiniteNow. Reality is the illusion you live in whether you acknowledge it or not.Illusion is the reality you think you live in when you're in denial.Denial is a large river in Egypt, which is actually real. The romantic image we have of Egypt is an illusion.(My mummy told me so.) Drip Curl Magic Posted March 11, 2006 Report Posted March 11, 2006 happiness is a balance of chemicals.Happiness is an imbalance of chemicals. My girlfriend recently told me about an article she read in blah blah ville about how happiness is "abnormal"Funny, whatever that means,J. Lowe if it's a chemical balance AND a chemical imbalance... does that mean it's good or bad? if it's not good and it's not bad, but everyone thinks it's good, then what makes it any less illusive than a full blown mirage? Well, actually, come to think of it.... it can either be real or illusive. Depending on how you look at it. It can be illusive in that it is not actually a positive... only a positive in that, it agrees with your body. But that doesn't make it more or less than a neutral in the crazy diverse array of life's energys. And it can be considered real in that it is an emotion, and it is there. We all identify it as being an emotion that we all experience. ahhhh. back and forth. I don't know if there is an answer for this. but on any note... I was under the impression that every specific emotion is, for the most part, a response to 1 specific chemical. Of course, you've always got countless chemicals flowing around in your body, influencing your mood.... but isn't an emotion such as happiness a result of your brain releasing an abundance of 1 chemical that outweights the other chemicals flowing through your body? if that holds true(I'm hoping someone with more knowledge on the subject will either approve or deny my claim), then couldn't we consider happiness more of A chemical... rather than a chemical balance? I think (i'm not sure) that the chemical balance... is ALL human emotion. Quote
Drip Curl Magic Posted March 11, 2006 Report Posted March 11, 2006 ok, forget everything I said, I've decided that happiness is not illusive. BUT the positive that we associate with happiness IS an illusion. Quote
Queso Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 only if you chase/seek it. rather than letting it occur;) Quote
motherengine Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 happiness is what makes you feel like this whole life thing is worth it. as an apostle of atmosphere i define happiness as letting go of rational and systematic thought (as well as the weight of outside opinion) and letting the flow of the natural world touch my senses. this is harder to do in a war zone, or if there are many tigers around, but one can manage. probably everything to do with happiness is chemical response to positive stimuli, though i am open to metaphysical possibilities as well.
