Turtle Posted March 10, 2006 Report Posted March 10, 2006 Cassini makes another spectacular find as it continues to explore Saturn and its moons. A water geyser on Enceladus makes the search for extraterrestrial life ever more likely. lefthttp://hypography.com/gallery/files/9/9/8/Enceladus_thumb.jpg[/img]Scientists have found evidence that cold, Yellowstone-like geysers of water are issuing from a moon of Saturn called Enceladus, apparently fueled by liquid reservoirs that may lie just tens of yards beneath the moon's icy surface. The surprising discovery, detailed in Friday's issue of the journal Science, could shoot Enceladus to the top of the list in the search for life elsewhere in our solar system. Scientists described it as the most important discovery in planetary science in a quarter-century. Source: MSNBC News Release Quote
InfiniteNow Posted March 10, 2006 Report Posted March 10, 2006 Wow... Geysers on Enceladus found roughly the same time as we are seeing an increase in geyser activity at Yellowstone (per C1ay's recent article post). Very very cool indeed! A Saturnian moon would make one heck of a place to put a water park! ;) Wheeee!! I wonder what the water would taste like... :) Quote
InfiniteNow Posted March 10, 2006 Report Posted March 10, 2006 Today's APOD has a pretty pic of the moon too: http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap060310.html Quote
