Tormod Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 The moving of the science forums to the new server is complete, but there is likely to be some intermittent problems while the DNS servers around the world get updated. If you experience very slow reaction at the forums (not from our members but from the server :eek_big: ) it is because you are still getting the files from the old server but the data from the new server. Thus things take extra time. Note: It's a good idea to NOT upload images or attachments this weekend, as they may end up on the wrong server. This should fix itself within 24 hours. Please post any bugs you experience. You do NOT need to post about getting a "database error" page, because those pages send me an e-mail with detailed error information.
Cedars Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 Well so far the change hasnt been too painful. Good Job! to everyone involved
infamous Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 Please post any bugs you experience. Don't seem to be able to access the home page.........forum index comes up fine.
Tormod Posted March 25, 2006 Author Report Posted March 25, 2006 Yes, just a slight problem with the server setup. Will fix.
Tormod Posted March 25, 2006 Author Report Posted March 25, 2006 I'm seeing several problems which I'm working on: Portal page goes to forum indexRules page goes to forum indexIf you perform a search, clicking on a topic in the search result takes you to an empty page Apart from these everything seems allright so far.
Tormod Posted March 25, 2006 Author Report Posted March 25, 2006 If you perform a search, clicking on a topic in the search result takes you to an empty page This one seems to happen only to topics with more than one page of posts. Strange.
Celeste Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 Everything working great so far on this end. Great Job!
Tormod Posted March 25, 2006 Author Report Posted March 25, 2006 Good to hear. The server seems snappy, too. Faster than before for me at least.
Tormod Posted March 25, 2006 Author Report Posted March 25, 2006 I'll be getting some sleep now but tomorrow morning (Norwegian time) I will try to do some upgrades and reinstallation to fix things. So please post any issues here or send an e-mail to staff at hypography dot com and we'll sort it out.
Tormod Posted March 26, 2006 Author Report Posted March 26, 2006 We had serious issues with a search engine optimization plugin. It has been disabled and the site seems to work well now. Thanks to Killean we managed to get the front page and the rules page back in order, as well. :eek_big: Good work fella.
Tormod Posted March 26, 2006 Author Report Posted March 26, 2006 BTW, the consequence of this is that our pages listed in Google no longer work...but hey, we gotta start somewhere.
Tormod Posted March 26, 2006 Author Report Posted March 26, 2006 Here's an important piece of information: The problem which caused a plugin to go haywire last night is solved. However, we revealed a bug in it which will throw blank pages at you if you have set the "Display X posts per page" in your Options to anything higher than the forum default, and if the page you are viewing is the first page of a thread which has many pages. If this happens to you, simply go to your UserCP -> Options and set the value to Forum default and you should be fine.
Jay-qu Posted March 26, 2006 Report Posted March 26, 2006 yeah I got that one - but now some threads are gonna have like 50 pages
