Racoon Posted March 26, 2006 Report Posted March 26, 2006 find a car belonging to a person that you wish misfortune upon - place a 20cent sized pile on the bonet above motor and light her up! I have heard of good thermite burning straight through motor and all and just kept going into the ground :hihi: We don't have 20 cent pieces here Jay-QWhat kind of Funny Money is that??? :hihi: Better, and Cheaper way is to add sugar to their Gas Tank! :hihi: Quote
Jay-qu Posted March 26, 2006 Report Posted March 26, 2006 hehe a 20 is this but im afraid that doesnt give you much of a size estimate.. it is our 2nd biggest coin.. Quote
GAHD Posted March 26, 2006 Report Posted March 26, 2006 put it on some rock aand light irt, watch what happens through welding goggles. stay far back incase hot sparks come flying. watch out for said sparks getting onto your shoes, you don't need a hole burned through your foot. Quote
Drip Curl Magic Posted March 26, 2006 Report Posted March 26, 2006 haha, well, thermite burns through damn near anything. So, you can seriously burn a hole through whatever you want. Just keep an eye out for something that would be hilariously easy to destroy with thermite. A car is an obvious one. But there are probably lots of other fun things you can mess up. Burn a hole through a mailbox, the sidewalk, sevag's mom's foot. be creative. Quote
HydrogenBond Posted March 26, 2006 Report Posted March 26, 2006 The thermite reaction was used, at one time, to weld iron at sea. The result of the reaction is a blob of molten iron. Maybe you could weld two unlikely things together. Quote
Queso Posted March 26, 2006 Author Report Posted March 26, 2006 be creative. i'll...try?? Quote
Jay-qu Posted March 26, 2006 Report Posted March 26, 2006 dont waste it - and we want pics, or video if you can manage it :) Quote
HydrogenBond Posted March 26, 2006 Report Posted March 26, 2006 Thermite is easy to make. All you need is powdered aluminum mixed with powered rust or iron oxide. The reaction makes aluminum oxide and iron. You need a trigger to get it going. Model rocket ignition wire and a battery with long leads may do the trick. This will make it safer. Gun power from fire crackers and a long fuse should also work as the ignition source. Do not pack it in anything just leave it in an open pile. Quote
TheFaithfulStone Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 I don't think you can just go out and buy powedered aluminum can you? That stuff is dangerous. Ask me about this guy I know with no fingers. :) TFS[don't really. I'm sure you can fill in the rest of this story.] Quote
HydrogenBond Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 Powered aluminum is very dangerous because it will pull oxygen from the air and expand rapidly to meet the oxygen. If you have a nitrogen atmosphere it is safe; there is no oxygen. Once you add the iron oxide it is not as dangerous as pure aluminum powder. The right amount of iron oxide will contain the oxygen the aluminum needs, closeby. It is safer to add more iron oxide than needed. Quote
CraigD Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 Better, and Cheaper way is to add sugar to their Gas Tank! :eek_big:They tried this in episode 15 of “Mythbusters”, and even after adding several pounds of sugar, letting it sit overnight, shaking the car, etc, could get nothing ill to happen. I think thermite on the engine is a surer way to hurt a car. Quote
HydrogenBond Posted April 3, 2006 Report Posted April 3, 2006 Cheap Bolgna on the paint job makes a mess when it starts to fester. Cars don't have hub caps that much, but here in Florida shrimp shells in the hub caps gets a lot of laughs and is not destructive. Quote
ingannilo Posted April 3, 2006 Report Posted April 3, 2006 I don't think you can just go out and buy powedered aluminum can you? ... http://unitednuclear.com/ If you don't know about it, you need to. Especially if you have interest in home chemistry. When I was in highschool it was my favorite website :) I decided you should use it to make a manhole cover perminantly closed. Quote
