Lots of leaf eaters use the ash as host but it seems the ash has very few borers as pests.

 

Borers: clearwing borers, Family Sessidae, Order Lepidoptera

 

Two native insects:

Lilac/Ash Clearwing Borer

Hosts:

lilac, privet, most ash

 

Banded Ash Clearwing Borer

Hosts:

lilac, privet, most ash

Seems this one is causing alot of problems in one particular area
