Only problem is the ticket prices, they're really steep here in Oslo. But the cost of driving is too high, and frankly I have no reason to. I'd rather stay pollution-free and use public transport since it's available.

When I was in Wien (Vienna) and staying with my buddy, You could Go Anywhere - Quick and Cheap!

If you are a student, the prices are really low!

I was immensely impressed by their public transportation system. ;) ;)

The roads are narrow, and they Tax you on the size of motor of your car! plus gas prices are crazy high!

And we moan here in the U.S.? wait till gas reaches $4 a gallon. :) :xx:

I have a Toyota V6 Truck. It's mileage is so-so.

I would rather ride a bike because I can't stand traffic ; People are just Nuts and in such a Damned Hurry! :)

It doesn't make sense. More Stress I don't need.

If I had to commute further distances, It'd be different. Most everything I need is within a 5-6 mile radius.

It rains so much here though, that I have to drive sometimes, and I can't always take the bus.

I voted sometimes/many times& I am conscience.

I drive to work myself, an hour each way, sometimes 90 mins each way. I do this because there are no better options. I don't want to carpool, it's too inflexible for me. I don't like taking the train because it takes just as long (sometimes longer) and half the time I end up standing for that whole time, noooo thanks! I usually like to get to work by 6:30 and leave by 3:00, then I'm home by 4:00 so I can spend more time with my kids since they are in bed by 8:00. When I take the train, I have to go by its schedule and the earliest I can get home is about 5:30, then we eat dinner and at 7:00 the kids are getting ready for bed.

And no, I don't drive a Toyota PIOUS, so I'm not helping the environment that way either. I wish there was a train that would get me to work at 6:30 and leave for home at 3:00 and offer me a guarenteed seat, if there was, I would take it, but unfortunately there isn't one.

I am just curious a) where you commute :) how many other train users find they have to stand. (For me it fewer than 5% of journeys.)

I commute from Stafford VA to DC. Somtimes I can sit, but on other days it seems like a good 35% of people are standing and the isles of the train are packed, it's a pain in the neck to try to get off at your stop. I have bad knees and its horrible to stand for an hour in something that is moving and rocking back and forth, but I'm not going to sit down while some older woman is standing.

I take a local train to and from work every day.

Here is an interesting study: From the Swedish.

We know how Norwegians and Swedish love each other :)

Commuters who board a train 20 miles outside their destination were were found to have twice the stress levels than those traveling 40+ miles!

Apparently the more control the commuter has over his surroundings (such as being able to get a seat), the less stressful the journey. :)

This study suggests that commuters may be better off trading a short, stressful ride for a longer but calmer one!

I got this from "The Wellness Encyclopedia" published by Cal State Berkeley.

Any truth to that do you think Tormod?

I try to bike to school every day. If I can't or need to take my guitar in or other bing things that you can't carrry on a bike I get driven. But if I can't bike I take the subway. They just raised the fares here in Toronto so that's annoying...

A guitar to much to carry on a bike????????????????????

Untill I got my DL at the tender age of 21 I carried my bass *(upright acoustic) to and from rehearsals on the back of mine. Also on other occasions my Stratocaster and, Fender bassman 410 combo amp and pedal box (fender tube amp 4 -10" speaker cabinet combo) to gigs (often a 30+ mile round trip.) On yet other occasions 4 cases beer at once the trick is to buy or (as in my case make) one hell of a sturdy rear rack and obtain lots of bungies. In short it can be done and oh yeah tarps are your best friends in foul weather!!!:cup:
