Buffy Posted April 12, 2006 Author Report Posted April 12, 2006 Actually, we could go with 81: the 32 Mexican states include the "Federal District" which shouldn't be counted for the same reason we don't count D.C.... 81 it is! we'd be a 9-squared country! Ole!Buffy Quote
Queso Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 Stars stretch OUTWARD in 5 ways. States are expanding over invisible linesin every direction they possibly can. Shining brightthe electric city illuminates itselfthru the night. Why stars? And in what 5 ways are we expanding? It just so happens that every Point is Subjective  Quote
GAHD Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 Better yet, how about the rest of the world calls in the trade deficit, and takes it's oweings from the US land? As a Canadian I place dibs on hawaii. Quote

Buffy Posted April 13, 2006 Author Report Posted April 13, 2006 Yeah, right, that leaves the matter of which of the two would be the federal capital of the 81 states...And that ought to be "obvious" right? To the victor goes the spoils,Buffy Quote
Racoon Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 What do we about Peso's?Not really a problem because Mexicans prefer the Green Dead Presidents anyway... How do we provide Mexicans with Social Security?Seems we won't be able to afford the boomers here now??? :hihi:  It will be like when Germany took down the Berlin Wall and had to bring up the East Germans.ONLY on a MUCH bigger scale - with radically different cultures Quote
Racoon Posted April 14, 2006 Report Posted April 14, 2006 The Health Care costs to boot! To modernize their health care system, and pay for it somehow   Prisons, Roads, Schools, ungodly corruption along the way!!! :hihi: Maybe if we weren't spending a $1 Billion dollars a day in Iraq. Big Ideas call for Big Action! Quote

Buffy Posted April 14, 2006 Author Report Posted April 14, 2006 Pesos? You're right: they use greenbacks already. Just convert em. Makes our economy bigger, more capital, better leverage on world markets. We'll be members of OPEC too! Social Security? Unfortunately, life expectancy is low in Mexico because of poor health care. We're close to raising SS age to 70 anyway, so my guess is we get a *lot* more people paying into the system, but few extra to have to pay out to! Culture? No problem, we already have the Spanish language stations well integrated here. They're Catholic, and I think the US passed being prejudiced against them when JFK was elected. They've got a good handle on US culture with all the tourista dollars that are spent there, so I really don't see much of an issue. Health care costs? The nice thing about the status quo on that one is that the *government* really doesn't do much: Medicaid is largely really funded by states anyway, and with fewer old folks, Medicare is not a problem. Remember that the Republican party is really trying to privatize health care, so its really going to get less and less subsidized, and with the proper application of lobbying, the insurance companies would *easily* be able to get dispensation from having to provide the same level of insurance at least for a decade or so (same kind of tricks were pulled in Germany, but we'd do *far* less than they did). Prisons, schools? Again, these are *mostly* state or county programs. Not subsidized nationally. Roads? Sure we'd have to foot the bill for the expansion of the interstate system, but that would be a huge subsidy to business as well and would pay itself back in spades. Amazing what you can justify if you're a ruthless lassez faire economist! *Great* questions Rac! Keep 'em coming! :hyper: Arriba!Buffy Quote
Racoon Posted April 14, 2006 Report Posted April 14, 2006 You forgot the Corruption part smarty pants! ;) We could quickly exploit their resources for fast liquid capital to fund the transition!:) We might even pass on our National Debt to include Mexico too. they got a part in it anywayz...:hyper: Oh,but then, What about Environment??, Sewage and Garbage? That whole infrastructure needs to be completely overhauled. :rain: :) But look how many Jobs would be created from that! :rain: A Brave New Utopia,Racoon Quote
Racoon Posted April 14, 2006 Report Posted April 14, 2006 OH! :rain: The Whole legal System Too!Don't forget that endless Red Tape and Beaurocracy... I'm sure that would be REAL SMOOTH :hyper: Quote
Buffy Posted April 14, 2006 Author Report Posted April 14, 2006 Corruption? What corruption? You saying its any worse than what we have in DC? :hyper: The Federales could sure use some cleaning up, but really we just send in a few shiny black FBI shoes to run things and let 'em know that the NSA is listening to *everything* and I think it will remedy itself pretty darn quick. Resources! Yep! Mentioned that already several times. Oil! Touristas (they're not just from the US you know!)! Resources are why developed nations colonize you know.... Infrastructure Can you say Tennessee Valley Authority? Eliminated the Great Depression! Yowza! John Maynard Keynes would *definitely* approve! :rain: National Debt? Three words: "Deficits Don't Matter" -- Dick Cheney Environmental issues? Sure! See infrastructure above! Actually its not as bad as it could be: the worst is the smog in Mexico City, which really isn't much worse than LA was in the 60s and 70s and look at it now: we just gotta get 'em to buy new Chevy's and Fords with catalytic converters burning corn-produced Ethanol from the midwest-enhanced gas. Oh and NO UNIONS! Woot! The Octopus,Buffy Quote

(not unlike some wars that are happening) But, with a Majority of eager Mexicans behind it, and a big Profit ahead of it??? :hyper: It's a Dream in Realitybut perhapsa Reality in Dreams.....:rain: Quote

ldsoftwaresteve Posted April 14, 2006 Report Posted April 14, 2006 I for one like the idea, but only if we make sure that property rights are protected/created. We screwed that up in both Afghanistan and Iraq and if we had treated the subject correctly the people would be running the show not a gang of U.S.A. approved thugs. So now we have territorial disputes, warlords and insanity. Big surprise.Having said that, I will have to change my mind and say that I don't approve of the idea. We wouldn't handle it correctly and the common man would be screwed again. Our current Administration believes it is the aristocracy and longs for a return to a feudal system with kings and landed gentry. No doubt because of their connection with the ruling family of Saudi Arabia. Perhaps that is unfair. Maybe they are just stupid. Quote
Qfwfq Posted April 19, 2006 Report Posted April 19, 2006 Our current Administration believes it is the aristocracy and longs for a return to a feudal system with kings and landed gentry.Believes? Goodness, they are the aristocracy! Or the patricians, or the nobility, or whatever you might call it. Works differently, based on different resources, but it's the same thing it boils down to. Quote
