Guido Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 Every time I come here my computer bogs down horribly. I can surf sites all day long and I don't notice any difference in speed until I reach this site. As an example - from when I pressed the "Create New Thread" button to when I saw this blank window for typing my message, almost 5 minutes passed! Every action I do on this site results in "Not Responding" message and everything comes almost to a complete stop for about a minute. My other running programs slow down a lot, but not as bad (at least I can keep working with them). But even changing between open programs can take 10-15 seconds. I'm using Opera browser (as I have for many years) an WIN XP Pro. 512MB Ram and 5+ Gig of free hard disk space. In windows task manager my System Idle Process always shows above 90% (although it fluctuates like crazy) BUT my page file usage is above 1.3Gig. I think this is too much. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I would love to stay at this site. Thanks! Quote
InfiniteNow Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 It bogs my system down too, actually. Quote

InfiniteNow Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 Windows XP v5.1 with SP2 installed. It is a work LAN, so that's part of it. IE is 6.0 I'm not an IT guy, but have a gut instinct that it's related to the cookies... just a guess though really. Cheers. :computer: Quote
Jay-qu Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 My computer is nothing special and my speeds an fine, never had a problem with waiting to long.. my internet speed is 512Kbps though.. Quote
ughaibu Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 Isn't it caused by the new advertising? I'm stuck for three or four seconds every time I change page, it gets pretty tiresome. Quote
Guido Posted April 13, 2006 Author Report Posted April 13, 2006 Win XP Pro, Opera 7.23. I'm almost sure it has to do with my page file usage. I was watching it all morning and surfing the net, plus using other forums (with just as much advertising) and it has never gone above 275MB of PF usage. Once I came to this site is has steadily been rising - currently at 506MB. Once it hits 1Gig I'll have to close my browser and restart to get it back down to 250mb or so (unless there is another way to reset it?). I don't know what is so different about this site that causes these problems. Like I said, I do a lot of surfing and with Opera it's not unusual for me to have 20 different websites open at the same time - without a problem. Quote
Guido Posted April 13, 2006 Author Report Posted April 13, 2006 I created a new thread and now I'm up to 626MB PF Usage. And climbing. Quote
Guido Posted April 13, 2006 Author Report Posted April 13, 2006 Up to 757MB. Every action I take on this website (reply to threads, view threads, etc.) causes it to rise. :lightbulb Quote
pgrmdave Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 Well, if it has to do with the new advertising, I think that we'll have to wait for Tormod to come back from his vacation to see what we can do. I understand that advertising can be annoying, but without the money from the advertising, we'd be unable to have this site. Quote
bpjg2fat Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 hah, you need better computers. It isn't the site.:lightbulb Quote
