Raccoon, do you know the meaning of ''subjective''? also you have just made your subjective choice of literature with which i do not agree.

Subjective? Hmmmm. thats a tough one. Let me look it up in the dictionary.:hihi:

The dictionary. Now thats Great Literature!

we agree to disagree. :D

The Bible is Boring.

Literature (n.) 1. Artistic writings. 2. the definition you gave.

Whats so artistic about the Bible?? It tells you what you are supposed to believe. :hyper:

Of course one of the implications of the word "Literature" is that it is a work of fiction: that's not to say that its not "based on a true story", but that view is what allows a lot of people to believe in God, think that its an inspired text, and *still* not feel compelled to believe that evolution is false or that being gay is a wrong lifestyle choice.

Of course if its *not* literature, then all complaints about its weaknesses as a literary work are moot: it is what it is. You therefore hold any negative opinions about it at your peril.

I haven't read the whole bible, and I haven't read any of it for a few years, but I think that it is very interesting whether it is true or not. I think the fact that it can be translated or perceived to so many different people in different ways makes it a great piece of literature. Personally, I don't see how a novel or even another great piece of literature could be seen as better than a bible. I think the bible speaks to those who read it more than anything else could. But then again, maybe that's because that is the religion I have been around the most and it makes more sense to me. What about the muslim's bible (i dont know the name) or any other religions bible? Could those be seen as great pieces of literature too? I think that one reason I think that it could be the greatest piece of literature is because of it's religious or spiritual importance, but I also think that if I were to read it, I would find some good writing, word use, and all that kind of stuff.

For a bunch of people who pretend to know the Bible, here's a question.

What are the first words in the Bible?

If you answered "In the Beginning", you're flat out wrong!

The first words in the Bible are "Placed here by the Gideonites. Do not remove from hotel room."

Actually, unless I'm wrong, I think the first word in the bible is 'And'. I think i'm remembering that correctly.. and thats the king james version if I'm right. Somebody please tell me if that's right cuz I don't have a bible..:hihi:

Oh yeah, and that excludes the title page and all that.

No,

but it's true that at least half the sentences in the KJV begin with 'And'. Grammar teachers usually mark this, justly, as an error (conjunction between "" and something) but authors of great lit can always get away with it. :singer:

:phones: If you click the little blue V button to the left of Gen 1:1 you get the text for several versions but the URI is a temp dir so it was no use posting it as a link.
