IrishEyes Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 My pastor would laugh!! We are probably one of the mroe 'progressive' families in our church. Mr Irish loves to play 'stump the chump' with my pastor, but usually doesn't get very far. They recently had a very long (months long) "discussion" on whether there was actually such a thing as "Christian rock" or not. That is one of the few times that my preacher didn't actually have anything Biblical to back him up and finally had to admit that his opinion was just that - opinion! However, as a former serious headbanger, my pastor also loves to hear about new bands, and keep up on what the youth in our area are listening to. He's not so bad, for an old bald guy! Quote
Freethinker Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 The list is way too long and would change regularly. Like if I am htting the dance floor there is stuff I enjoy dancint ot aht I would never ever listen too for pure enjoyment. Brick House by Commodores a perfect example. But if I go by who's stuff I own the most, Clapton in any and all forms is probably tops. But as far as guitar goes, nobody, NOBODY!! ever has, is or will touch Hendrix. Not just because of his abilties, but his contribution. He INVENTED the sound, the technology, and riffs, the methodology... others can do good jobs of copying him. But all of that innovation can never be duplicated again. He already did it! Though in terms of innovative sounds/ approach Duane Almond was a close 3rd. Greg did a good job of keeping things alive. Van the Man Morrison, what can I say? Voice and style combined with lyrics that thrill! Suddenly "Into the Mystic" passes thru the gray matter and shivers my spine! And speaking of Morrison, the Doors! Ya, lights my fire every time! And as I get more time to play my gitbox I gain additional respect for the Stones. And I have to pick it up and play along anytime Steve Miller, a local boy, hits my speakers. His Saving Grace keeps on Rockin' me baby!. But when Pink Floyd is on, it's time to just listen! It just keeps Echo(ing) in my head! Pick back in hand for Jackson Browne, and will Stay there no matter how hard or Tender is the night! 20 years more than 10 years later is 10 years after Alvin Lee. CS&N always, even though only sometimes Y cause he's after the gold rush! As well as the various regressions of the Hollies and Airplanes and such. Though today Big Brother is watching, Janis had em rocking. And how many Kings have we had? BB? Carol? But she was no Hooker, John Lee was. Not that he worked Satin Sheets nor did the kinds have Knights in them as the Moody Blues did! And ya gotta have a whole lotta love for Zepplin! OK, running on empty here... Tormod Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 And I forgot Neil Young...and Nick Cave...and Ry Cooder...man this could take all day. But FT..."Creed"? CREED? Quote
Freethinker Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 Ya I know. I get lots of greif for that one all the time. Perhaps they don;t belong in my "favorites". They just have a song I do like. And yes I was trying to come up with a few names that aren;t 30+ years old! Something that wasn't REreleased on CD! :-) Quote

wisdumn Posted August 25, 2004 Author Report Posted August 25, 2004 yeah i have to agree tormod about creed, sorry FT but if you want to talk about modern music, talk about anything but a guy that sounds like eddie vedder with a bad cold. scott staph sucks!sorry FT, not to bash your band but you'll have to enjoy "your own prison" by yourself. I have to admit that much of todays "music" is almost physically painful to hear. Alas,... I am getting old. My Father says the same thing about what I listen to. Quote
wisdumn Posted August 30, 2004 Author Report Posted August 30, 2004 so what was meatloaf's part on bat out of hell? did he write the lyrics or any of the music or did he just sing? Quote
wisdumn Posted August 31, 2004 Author Report Posted August 31, 2004 well i just lost about 50% of my respect for "THE LOAF". so he didn't even write the lyrics? Quote
GAHD Posted September 2, 2004 Report Posted September 2, 2004 no, I don't think he did. Personally I'm a big fan of the song anyways. Quote
wisdumn Posted September 2, 2004 Author Report Posted September 2, 2004 yeah i guess i would still like the music but i just prefer when people actually write their material. Quote
Uncle Martin Posted September 3, 2004 Report Posted September 3, 2004 Paradise by the dashboard light!!! Nuff said??? Quote
TeleMad Posted September 3, 2004 Report Posted September 3, 2004 Well, until about a month ago I had only gone to 2 concerts in my life: Rick Springfield and REO Speedwagon, both back around 1980. But then I got to see a great show in Atlanta - Puddle of Mud, Three Doors Down, and Nickelback. Also like Evanessence (spelling?) and Offspring. As far as older rock stuff, Guns 'n Roses, Jethro Tull, Ozzy. On the other hand, I also like Pink, Destiny's Child, Ricky Martin (please...I like the music, not the dude), and other top-40 pop. And at least for his older stuff, I used to not be able to get enough Maynard Ferguson and Chase. Quote
