Racoon Posted June 16, 2006 Author Report Posted June 16, 2006 Cougars also known as Puma's and mountain lions ;) These guys could be a danger on the Great Sasquatch hunt. Cougars, as they more commonly known, usually patrol a territory of ~125 square miles. Territories are defended by a mutual avoidence as opposed to confrontation. :cocktail: Females territories can overlap...;) Cougars don't roar, but Purr. These felines can have the playfulness and affinity for catnip like a housecat; but are capable of being lethal, and ellusive. These creatures are Myth and Legend amoung Native American culture, Safety Link:http://www.nps.gov/ccso/cougar.htmInfo:http://www.nsrl.ttu.edu/tmot1/feliconc.htmTravel info:http://www.bcadventure.com/adventure/wilderness/animals/cougar.htm Quote

Racoon Posted June 26, 2006 Author Report Posted June 26, 2006 Wombats... these guys are pretty cool!Wombats are an Australian marsupial. they are short with short legs. They are herbivores and eat grasses, herbs, and bark. They have an "extraordinarly slow metabolism", and it take a 14 day cycle. Wombats are popular in Zoos as they have little fear of humans, but make poor pets as they are decidedly solitary. more intriguing info:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wombat and:http://www.australianfauna.com/wombat.php Cute Huh?? :) Quote
InfiniteNow Posted June 26, 2006 Report Posted June 26, 2006 Wombats... these guys are pretty cool!Wombats are an Australian marsupial. they are short with short legs.Does anyone remember that commercial... everyone was watching Jeopardy, and the woman didn't know the answer, and they cut to people all over the world watching their televisions yelling: "MAR SOOO PEEE UHLLLL!!!!" What the heck was that commercial for? Anyone remember? Then there was Mildred, the 9 foot tall Wombat. Her friends, while sendentary, would run like the dickens every time she came around. Quote

Racoon Posted June 28, 2006 Author Report Posted June 28, 2006 Tasmanian Devils If anything, these animals have a cool name. Tasmanian Devils are the worlds largest carnivorous Marsupials. They are the size of a small dog, but are built stocky and solid. Devils have a big head and short stubby tail. Devils are nocturnal, and get rowdy and noisy when eating.Kinda' Like the Looney Toons cartoon Taz  except I don't think they spin... Here are a couple good links to learn some more: http://www.parks.tas.gov.au/wildlife/mammals/devil.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tasmanian_Devil Sorry for quoting myself.. But I believe that what you are enamoured with is a Tasmanian Devil,... Cerebral Ecstasy. :) I agree that they are really cool...these links have some pretty decent info, that is easier to read than it is for me to type. :eek2: Quote
dagaz Posted June 28, 2006 Report Posted June 28, 2006 Tasmanian Devils are the worlds largest carnivorous Marsupials. The tassie devil has only been the world's largest carnivorous marsupials for the last 70 years. Prior to that the Thylacine (Tasmanian Tiger) was the largest, however the last one died in the Hobart Zoo in 1936. There has been efforts by a team at the University of Adelaide to recreate a Thylacine from fragments of DNA, however I think they have passed now. One of my personal favourite animals is the Pademelon - they are the smallest of the kangaroo family and mainly hang out in rainforest or dense scrub. They are highly elusive critters, I've heard their 'thump, thump' as they hop through the rainforest a hell of a lot more times than I've actually seen them. Racoon 1 Quote

Racoon Posted July 17, 2006 Author Report Posted July 17, 2006 Mongoose! I got interested when I was reading about Indian fables about the Mongoose vs. the Cobra. (which is also gambled upon like cock fighting)As it is known as the snakes worst enemy. There are over 30 species of Mongoose from the Herpestidae family. They are small cat-like creatures. Mongooses are mostly carnivorous and will eat bugs, lizards, rodents, worms and sometimes fruit. :cup: They are fast, quick, agile, and smart. Mongooses can be domesticated and taught simple tricks. :) and are kept as pets for pest control reasons. some more Info:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mongoose http://me.essortment.com/mongoose_rhbg.htm Quote
InfiniteNow Posted July 17, 2006 Report Posted July 17, 2006 Then there was Melvin, the mongoose who fell in love with Chaquita... the cobra. :cup: Quote
