COTA 2 B Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 Hey All' I'm new to this site but I have been reading a lot of the post here for several weeks. I found this lovely site when I was researching for a paper for English on "Death With Dignity Act" and I see that all of you guys have very strong opinions. "Which I have as well". I hope no one throws me under the bus but I want to tell you my stand on several issues. "Death with Dignity" should be an options in every state. "Abortion" is a woman's right to choose. "Capital Punishment" should happen once the person has been given sodium-pentothaol and with no doubt did the crime. I don't believe in caging people nor animals. I don't believe in evolution, I did not come from a primate. I do believe in God and a Higher power than all of us. I am studying to be an "Occupational Therapy Assistant". I do believe that if you want to be an organ donor than you should. Myself, I will be donating my body to Science, because I will be done with it. LOL. I do believe in the "right-to-die", no machines for me. Let me go. I have learned in my 37 years on this Earth(ROCK) that all people are different and have a right to their veiws, even if they are not the same as mine. I believe some Dr's just like to get cut happy. Just so everyone can get the gist of my personality. I hope you have a Great Night and Day and look forward to chatting with you guys on an individual bases. Chow for now, T Quote
Racoon Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 Sounds Great COTA! Except the No-Evolution part. But hey, we all have our convictions! :omg: You can spar with that idea here. Many do.Other than that, you sound really cool and well rounded! Pink is kinda' hard to read though. Best wishes and enjoy this lil' slice of Internet Heaven :cup: Wacky Racky Quote
InfiniteNow Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 Agreed on both fronts, Rac. The whole "not from primate" thing sounds a bit like denial, and pink is hard to read, but I guess every spectrum needs two sides. Welcome to the site COTA2B. I hope that maybe I can convince you that some beliefs are mistaken, and a mind open to new ideas is a happy one. Enjoy! Cheers. :surprise: Quote
ughaibu Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 Are there any new ideas? Evolution, for example, predates the Bible. Quote
COTA 2 B Posted April 27, 2006 Author Report Posted April 27, 2006 Hey All, Just checking in and seeing all you nice folks comments. Thank you for the "Welcomes" a good change of pace for me because my semester winds next Thursday. As for the whole primate thing, don't waste your value breath or typing on trying to change my views. " Not trying to be fresh" but a lot of people in school have been trying for the whole year to change my mind, they didn't. I am from a very small Southern town and grew-up in Church so I will stick with that belief. You may try another if you like. Sorry about the "Pink" it was suppose to be "Purple". T Quote
Tormod Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 I don't go to church so I never learned that I didn't descend from apes. But hey, that's my loss. Welcome, Cota! :phones: Quote
COTA 2 B Posted April 27, 2006 Author Report Posted April 27, 2006 No problem. My roommates son and I get into it about the whole ape thing. T:naughty: Quote
InfiniteNow Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 No problem. My roommates son and I get into it about the whole ape thing. It's not like my life will be changed at all if you do or do not choose to see certain claims as true... However, I am genuinely curious. Maybe I'm wrong, and maybe I'm misguided. Who knows, right? I take pride in allowing myself to be proven wrong and learning from it. What exactly causes you to feel so strongly against the preponderance of evidence that we decended from a common ancestor? What have you been told that makes you cling so strongly to your conviction, I don't believe in evolution, I did not come from a primate.?? Kindly and sincerely curious, Quote
UncleAl Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 I don't believe in evolution, I did not come from a primate.I do believe in God and a Higher power than all of us. 1) Your mitochondrial and nuclear genetic codes are continuously traceable all the way back to yeast, and earlier. You descended from a protist. You are star tar. You are meat, you are mortal, and you are wasting your limited existence. 2) There are at least 33 crores of Hindu gods - that's 330 million gods. Post the list and underline the names of the gods in which you believe. Uncle Al believes in empirical reality. If it is not a shorter list it is certainly a better one. "I used to think it was awful that life was so unfair. Then I thought, wouldn't it be much worse if life were fair and all the terrible things that happen to us come because we actually deserve them? So now I take great comfort in the general hostility and unfairness of the universe." Marcus Cole. Babylon 5. Quote
COTA 2 B Posted April 28, 2006 Author Report Posted April 28, 2006 Okay Uncle Al, I believe in the GOD; The Holy Trinity (meaning the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit/"Holy Ghost")the perfect and omnipotent and omniscient originator and ruler of the universe. This does not mean in no uncertain terms that you may believe what I do nor, do I expect you too. If you are wondering what religion I am then that would be Southern Baptist. I know you can tear apart my very first post about my views on death but make no mistake, I have a right to feel this way as well do you. I do know the "Ten Commandments" and the one I am referring is "Thou shall not kill." I hope I answered your question. Thanks and take it slow, T Quote
Tormod Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 I do know the "Ten Commandments" and the one I am referring is "Thou shall not kill." "Capital Punishment" should happen once the person has been given sodium-pentothaol and with no doubt did the crime. I don't believe in caging people nor animals. Okay, since this is NOT the theology forum but the philosophy forum - please explain how you can justify capital punishment when it is obviously in violation of the 5th (or 6th, according to which version you subscribe to) commandment? COTA 2 B Posted April 28, 2006 Author Report Posted April 28, 2006 Hey All, I knew sure as I was sitting here someone was gonna pose that question. I have my beliefs in "Capital Punishment" just as I do my God, I didn't say I was following every "Commandment" but, we do have a right to our own opinion and didn't say it was the one God would want me to choose. I feel the way I do because I was a cop for 2 1/2 years and don't believe in caging animals nor humans. T Quote
Tormod Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 I feel the way I do because I was a cop for 2 1/2 years and don't believe in caging animals nor humans. So it's either capital punishment or let them back out on the streets? I'm a little confused here. Mind clearing this up? Quote
COTA 2 B Posted April 29, 2006 Author Report Posted April 29, 2006 Hey there, No, I believe that there should be prisons but with reform. I don't believe in double life sentences and I don't believe that you should have prisons like "Pelican Bay." http://www.corr.ca.gov/visitors/fac_prison_pbsp.html This prison houses some of the worst people in the state of California. I mean you have everyone from Mexican Mafia, to the White Mafia and these inmates can order hits on the streets from prison. I think that is crazy. You know if you can reform someone or not. If someone gets life with no chance of getting out, I think there should be no life sentences. Your tax dollars and mine go to keeping these people alive, they eat better than you know and all they do is cause trouble. Nope, I don't agree with that. Hope, that cleared it up for you. T Quote
