Jay-qu Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 geeky is good - sounding like the military is bad. I like the one with the Hypo H in it ;) might have a mess round see what I can whip up. Quote
ronthepon Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 Finally, I have done up this one, which is built on TheBigDog's vision. Sure hope it's any good, spent a good two hours on it... Quote
Janus Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 Another thing I think we need is a manned vehicle that can walk around on the outside of the ship to allow external maintenance. There would be more than one of these so teams can do big jobs on the outside safely and easily. These would actually be the vehicles that were used to assemble the ship in Earth orbit. Bill (t-20) Along these lines may I introduce the MEUS (Mobile Extra-vehicular Utility Scaffold).; This unit is specifically designed to allow work on the outside of the rotating ring section. The foot pads contain electromagnets that allows it to crawl on the "underside" of the ring like a fly on a ceiling. In addition, the outside of the ship is dotted with anchor point, which the MEUS will mechanically couple to, while the operators are working on a particular area. This way, power can be conserved by only having to use the electromagnets while actually moving the MEUS into position. The boom can swivel a full 360° and telescopes in and out, to allow the workers to reach the largest possible area from a single anchor point. The cage also rotates so that it can be orientated such that it can be used on the "sides" of the ring section as well. Since MEUS is pronounced that same as "muse", each individual MEUS is named after a muse from Mythology. Thus we will have MEUS CalliopeMEUS ClioMEUS EratoMEUS Thalia MEUS Mneme Etc. A another unit is the MEL (Mobile Extra-vehicular Loader). It uses the same base but has a manipulator instead of a cage at the end of the Boom. The operator sits in a cabin located near the base of the boom. This unit is used to hold heavy items in place while work is being done. The MELs will also be individually named, thus we can have MEL OttMEL BlancMEL TormeMEL GibsonMEL BrooksSideshow MELEtc. Kayra 1 Quote
Jay-qu Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 Excellent, who is on our hands on repair crew? Quote
TheBigDog Posted May 23, 2006 Author Report Posted May 23, 2006 Blessed is the Prophesy, for she has Gahd in charge of maintenance. I get to use Sideshow MEL. It will be for maintenance and the primary carrier of personel between the ring and the zero G lab/docking bay. There will be capsule carried by it for his purpose. Bill Quote
Boerseun Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 ...do we have a wardrobe lady? (and is she hot?) Quote

Jay-qu Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 yeah and the chemistry between males and females :D Quote
ronthepon Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 Okay, okay, right. Are you telling me that biology practicals and chemistry are going to be done on the ship? I thought that we were doing groundbreaking astronomical work here? The god of science would be ashamed.(Or would he?) Quote

I thought that we were doing groundbreaking astronomical work here? The god of science would be ashamed.(Or would he?)The Prophesy welcomes all scientific study. While our mission is primarily astronomical, we are also a fully equipped research facility. We will be conducting analysis and experiments on soil samples taken from everywhere we go. Socially we are looking at the stresses of extended isolation as a closed group. And we are doing groundbreaking work toward the next generation generation ships. Ships that will carry man beyond the solar system in search of new homes to colonize. The Prophesy is a stepping stone toward all of those goals. Our imagination is the only limit to what we can learn on this voyage. We leave for our space trials to the moon in nine days. Lets make sure we have not forgotten anything. Bill (t-9) Quote
Pyrotex Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 Along these lines may I introduce the MEUS (Mobile Extra-vehicular Utility Scaffold).;....Wonderful. Just farkin, freakin wonderful!!! :):):):) Okay. Who's up for a MEUS Race?????? The entire Hab-Ring is our racetrack. First one to get around the whole thing and back to the starting line wins!!!!!! Eat my space dust!!!!!:hihi: :hihi: :hihi: EDIT: picking the 'direction' of our race could be critically important. Anybody care to hazard a guess as to why? :) Quote

I love the logo you made. I think we should have it as a holograph/3d logo. I want it to rotate in the corner of my screen :hihi:. Bill Quote
Pyrotex Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 I have a suggestion. Think about it carefully, because to make it work, we need to all pitch in, or chuck the idea. The idea is the "linear story" -- this is where we all support creating a story of "what's happening" as if it were really happening. For example, I might call out the launch sequence, ending with "zero!", then Boerseun would write about vibrations in Module 22 exceeding specs, BigDog would report all's okay with life support, ... etc. It's kinda like those novels where every chapter is written by somebody else, and each author leaves a cliff-hanger, a "mess" at the very end of the chapter for the next author to clean up. :hihi: Now, when this works (I have participated in a few linear stories) it really works and it's really fun. When it doesn't, it's usually because too many folks don't write "within the story" or "within character" --they write from the viewpoint of reality. This undermines the "story" and it usually crashes pretty soon. Just a suggestion. We don't have to do this. Just thought I would offer the option. Quote
