I have a suggestion. Think about it carefully, because to make it work, we need to all pitch in, or chuck the idea. The idea is the "linear story" -- this is where we all support creating a story of "what's happening" as if it were really happening. For example, I might call out the launch sequence, ending with "zero!", then Boerseun would write about vibrations in Module 22 exceeding specs, BigDog would report all's okay with life support, ... etc.

 

It's kinda like those novels where every chapter is written by somebody else, and each author leaves a cliff-hanger, a "mess" at the very end of the chapter for the next author to clean up. :hihi:

 

Now, when this works (I have participated in a few linear stories) it really works and it's really fun. When it doesn't, it's usually because too many folks don't write "within the story" or "within character" --they write from the viewpoint of reality. This undermines the "story" and it usually crashes pretty soon. Just a suggestion. We don't have to do this. Just thought I would offer the option.

I thought that this was what was already gonna happen.

Pyro - sounds like an a-class brilliant Idea. With a capital "I".

 

But then, I guess, we should maybe work on a GMT timeline, so that we're all on the same hymn sheet as far as time's concerned... (am I being anal?)

 

And then, I guess, we should maybe ask mr. Tormod san if we can lock participation of the thread to all those who've joined the journey by, say, next Tuesday (for example). The thread can be viewable to all, but if we want to keep a linear storyline going, we can't have hit-and-run posts! (Not that I'm innocent as far as this is concerned - my last coupla posts here were a bit flaky. I do apologize...!)

 

I think this might be fun!

After listening intently while she discussed her previous bad experience with males from the 3rd planet, and while sipping some champagne, the conversation became more sensual. The shades began to draw, and the jazz speakers set the mood... The start of a beautiful relationship, indeed.

Im all up for the linear story idea - I have done it before, and it was far from linear! but hey its good fun.

 

and pyro - if we dont choose the direction of the MUES race correctly it could be a very short race ;)

Preparing for first test of engine ignition. We should build up to 1/20 G (50%) within 5 seconds, hold for 5 seconds, turn off. All dudes and dudettes are at their monitoring stations. Racoon is in the bar, making sure the vibations don't break any bottles.

Mortastats stable at 32.8, a little high if you ask me

15%...20%...

Igniter status is GO!

Magnetic Pinch status is GO!

25%... 30%... stable at 37%. Holding. No leakage. Okay.

Fottasites ON! Befuddling pins aligned to 99.93%

Fuel temp at 8,500 Kelvins!

We're getting some rumble from Modules 2, 4, 5, 8 and 11...

Okay gang. Nothing broken, at least not badly, but there was some serious vibrations in the the aft ring of modules. And serious strain in the snorpler Hab-Ring support cables. I'm pretty sure it wasn't the engines.

 

Boerseun! BigDog! Okay, gang! Anybody! What the **** happened!

dude I hadnt even fixed the control conduits that bigdog spilt his beer on!

 

with it monitoring and compensating for power fluctuations in the plasma turbines our buffer got overloaded and nearly went into a critical meltdown!! lucky you shut it down when you did otherwise we would have had some major setbacks!!

 

please consult with me before any more tests, I would rather be alive for our launch date

OK! OK! I spilled some beer. We all that I spilled some beer! But that didn't cause this issue. That control system failed because of an oversight by all of us! And its a damn good thing we didn't fire up the engines and more. The shock absorber on the main thrust deflector is hydrolic. The hydrolics have been sitting in cold space for the past few weeks since we finshed assembly. At their current temperatures their viscosity is such that they are practically non functional. We need to warm up the hydrolic fluid to its operating temperature before engaging the engine. Otherwise the impacts on the frame will rip the ship apart. Now, how can we warm the hydrolics in advance of firing the engines? Any ideas guys?

Give him control of the Nuclear Thrust Rocket...:naughty: and guess what? He's like a kid in a candy store. ;)

 

Lets work out the bugs. We don't want a catastrophe when we're way out by Uranus.

Pyro did do good by identifying for us to fix the bugs and quirks...

 

Can't wait for launch.

Or the Amazing Story sure and soon to follow...

I think the best solution would be to ease the engines on at a very slow rate after prolonged shutdown. We bring them online and do a shakedown literally pulsing the engines so that the hydolics get a bit of movement into them, creating friction - heat!

Sounds like a plan JQ. I'll leave the solution to you engineering types. We are going to need a preheat routine before each engine run. We need this added to the navigation sequences in the computers. Very critical. We may need to engineer a solution for keeping the fluid warm all the time, or our ability to use the main engine for spontanious course corrections will go away. Remember, we have our collision warning systems that are tracking objects that may cross our path several hours ahead of us so that we can make micro course changes with the main engine to avoid them by several kilometers. Without that ability we are putting ourselves at the mercy of lady luck. We have too much invested in this venture to play that game. We do have our laser impact system to obliterate micro objects that we detect in our path. It is the big stuff that we will need to have some maneuver capacity to deal with.

 

I am going to hit the rack boys. Any word from the recruiting station about final sign ups before launch? Nine more days to get onboard. It is going to be spectacular!

In theory could include a piezoelectric mixture in the hydrolic fluid to help warm it? As you know Peizoelectrics when compressed produce an electric charge, combined with proper resistance this could heat the fluid as it's being used.

Moments later noted severe vibrations in chamber, all communications were temporarily suspended due to snag in alarm mechanism.

 

Failed mission to instantly notify commander.

 

Seconds later, engine test was aborted. 17:35:22

 

DAMAGE REPORT:

No severe damage noted.

 

Possible microtunnels formed in engine reigon.

 

Recommendations to authorities:

 

Give permission to check outer body walls about their integerity.

 

Attempt to fix snag in comm. system during alarm.

 

Facilitate better interactions between higher members to prevent similar disasters in the future.

 

Buy me a soda dispenser. Beer makes me disoriented in critical situations.
