I am really digging your images Janus. We should have a pool to see what your rep will show as when you hit 50 posts. Mine was 6 as 50 posts. Yours will be considerably higher than that.

I was thinking about windows a great deal. I had actually decided that there were none. But instead there would be virtual windows. High def panels that can show a real time rendered view in any direction. You would be able to choose to have the window rotate with the ship, or remain steady view. This would be standard fare in all the living and working spaces. But having seen this rendering I am leaning back toward windows on at least some of the modules. My concern is partly the visual effect of spinning at 3 rpms, and looking out. I don't want everyone naucious all the time.

Regardless there are windows in each of the spoke connectors between the modules that are used for maintenance and docking with an outside ship when needed. Plus when in a capsule being transported to zeroG there are windows. zeroG has view ports in the front and rear. It is otherwise surrounded by the outer cargo bays. And all the extra-vehicular ships are loaded with windows.

Can you put a stop on that order? I hate to break it to you, but suction cups don't work in a vacuum.

LOL!

Yah I dont think that even crossed my mind!

After I posted I was thinking that since the entire sphere itself is magnetic, it should stick easily to magnetic materials. Although our ship may lack those types of materials.

It is a transportation device that carry people/cargo/tools etc. It can function as many things and I am sure we will find alot of use for it.

90% of the mass is located in the bottom of the inner core. While the remaining mass will be located in the outter sphere as to allow it to remain stationary inside while the outter sphere rotates.

The rotation wont be that noticable will it.. how big are the rings? Also we would need a lot of cameras to have a real time view in any one direction!

Physically you will not notice it at all(unless you look for it). To maintain 1g on the lower deck it is turning at 113 kmph. If you run in the direction of travel you will feel heavier. If you run back you will feel lighter. Ever so slightly.

But in turning 3 rpm it will be clearly visible when looking out a window. The other parts of the ship in view will seem motionless. The sky wil be swirling. We will probably adapt to it quickly. The brain is good at such things.

I forgot part of the answer! Yes, there are many cameras. They all feed into the central imaging system. This system combines them in real time to render views that may be a composite of what a couple of cameras are seeing. This is how the steady view is acheived. They are wide angle lenses on the cameras that use algorythms to remove the distortion and give a clear focused view. I will detail the 3d capability these give in a later post.

The connectors between the modules have many purposes.

On the interior of rings 1 and 4 are the spokes that connect the rings to the center of the ship. The MEL and MEUS untils crawl up and down these spokes to deliver personel to zeroG or to perform maintenance on the ship.

On the exterior of rings 1 and 4 are generic connection ports for hanging equipment on the ship. There are 24 such ports in total. We can change the configuration to meet differing mission requirements.

Our initial configuration is the same both front and rear. We have 6 anti-collision lasers, 6 spread spectrum anti-collision radar units and 12 1 meter telescopes. Both ring 1 and ring 4 are outfitted the same way. This allows optimal defensive posture from collisions front and rear, plus the ship is exxentially two large array telescopes. One of our mission will be to construct a permanent large array telescope pased in deep space. We will need to decide the best location for this. When we do that we will be reducing the number of telescopes that we can include in our onship array.

When we get further out we will deploy a large communication antenna from one of the ports. We will not need this for the first few weeks of the journey.

Getting into a transport pod is actually done by going through the floor of the connectors in rings 2 and 3. Some are elevator equipped, others are crawl through. You never egress on the outside for risk of losing grip and being flung into space. When the MEL and MEUS machines are used on the outside they do so with extra care, and with a piloted vehicle ready in case of a problem.

When the main engine is firing external ventures are generally forbidded. You don't want the ship accellerating away from you. It turns around very slowly and leaves a wake of lethal radiation and nuclear detonations. Bad news to be caught in.

The trip to the moon begins in 24.5 hours. Everyone should be onboard. We have some final supplies coming onboard and have just a few hours left for people to join the crew. In a few days we will be swinging back around the earth temporarily before heading to mars.

Adventure awaits!

It just so happens I am a experienced map designer for a game called counter-strike (half-life).

I can build a model of this ship as a map to make a great replica of the ship and equipment. Where then convert it into game format where each of will be able to log into a server and navigate the ship inside and out bringing this fantasy to 3D real time!

Here we can meet and chat and get a real feel for this adventure we will be embarking on.

At certain times we can log into a server of this 'map' and fly around in zero gravity outside the ship and hold meetings and role play in the various 'rooms'.

The only drawback is one is required to purchase the game counter-strike for a value of 10-20 dolla!

I suppose I could make it for just half-life.

I hope I didnt give the wrong idea with experienced mapper. I can make some pretty nifty stuff but I am no pro by any measure.

The maps size for designing is quite large. The ship could be made longer than you can see in the game which it might need to be regardless.

I am going to make a few demos tomorrow. I see we have a graphic designer in here with much more powerful skills! and software! lol.

Anyhow. I am going to see what I can do here.

I've mapped as a hobby and for some good time pass.

I can't help but remark that in Half Life 1 In 4096 X 4096 X 4096 dimention maximum given, you will manage the whole ship in one map. And Making map-transitions will ruin all the fun.

You'll be making it in one day?! Good luck on it. I'll be eager to check it out.

Take some screen shots and put them up, will you? I don't have a fast internet connection

that would be incredible - you dont happen to be able to map americas army? thats freeware so people dont have to rush out and buy it - also the textures are much better and there are more adept characters to our needs.

I will take video of our trip and post it here, only problem is it will be a fairly large file..

What do you mean exactly?

thats a NO GO for americas army.. I have 56k dial up running @ 28k speeds.

I downloaded americas army once. My computer wouldnt hack it.

Half-life is pretty inexpensive product when buying it alone. (Like 5$) since its quite old.

Once installed you need to download a program called "steaM". This is a game browswer within itself, allowing you to download the mods without looking for them. Its a pretty simple process.

I can also look for alternative free softwares that could enable this same idea. Althought Half-Life Coun..Strike is the way to go!

EDIT:: Animated Flight plan is here
