Essay Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 So posting an equation within a quote or other tag just doesn't work (like this)?[math] sum_q frac{partial}{partial x_q}vec{psi} = 0[/math] ...but putting it out in the open is the only way to have the tags work?[math] \sum_q \frac{\partial}{\partial x_q}\vec{\psi} = 0[/math] Is that correct, or is there a way to have equations display within quotes? p.p.s.Thanks for the answer; I never would'a guessed that....:) Quote

The backslashes get stripped when quoted. Instead of using one backslash, use two - one will be stripped, the other will remain. So, it will look like this:\sum_q \frac{\partial}{\partial x_q}\vec{\psi} = 0 normally and \\sum_q \\frac{\\partial}{\\partial x_q}\\vec{\\psi} = 0 in quotes. Also, if you preview your post you'll have to re-double-up the backslashes before submitting. -modest Essay 1 Quote
modest Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 Though there are many excellent LaTeX references, I usually refer to Help:Displaying a formula - Meta . I don’t think it’s complete, but it’s yet to fail to answer any of my questions. I would also like to say thank you CraigD for this link. It looks much better than the set of sources I was using. Very helpful. -modest Quote
alexander Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 I rather like the wikimedia reference guide myself too.... but, i would agree with craig, it's not 100% complete, but for a math reference, it's waaay up there  Quote
