Posthistoric...

 

Interesting paradox.

 

By definition, "historic" refers to things in the past, "pre"historic to things that happened before written records, or written history, at least, but the "pre" implies that a "post" should also exist, albeit only linguistically?

 

But what would "post"historic refer to?

 

Things that happened after history got written down?

 

So, would "posthistoric" refer to the time period between a specific happening, and the first reference to that event in print?

 

Say I commit murder at 12:00. Would "posthistoric" refer to the time between 12:00 and 17:00, when the afternoon papers first mention it?
