HydrogenBond Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 If I was to improvise something it would be dilute chlorine water drops and a charcoal filter. The chlorine will kill micro-organisms and the activated charcoal filter will take out the chlorine as well as flavors and odors. Coconut charcoal can make a good charcoal filter. Quote
InfiniteNow Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 Your thread title reminded me a bit of Dr. Strangelove's Jack Ripper. Quote

Don't forget the tried & true technique of boiling.;) Quote
Jay-qu Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 on camp in the outback we used river water but slipped a few drops of Iodine into it and then your set to drink (tasted a bit funky though) Quote

Michaelangelica Posted May 30, 2006 Report Posted May 30, 2006 what are some non-expensive ways to purify water? Solar stills? A version of one was once put in all ship life-boats. If you go to your ship chandler you might be able to buy a hand operated osmotic pump. This filters sea water or brackish water using hand action Quote
