bunbun Posted May 24, 2006 Report Posted May 24, 2006 iv had a problem with my pc, i kinda no the hard drive could have something to do with it, but when i plug it in, i switch it on and it boots then u hear the dics load and does nothing, its like it dies after the disc tries to load, there is 2 operating systems on it whic doesnt help and the monitor remains black, and it was getting slower but i had no money to repair it, i was wondering if anyone new exactly what was up or do u think by wiping the hard drive clean would it work? or any ideas how i can do it myself at home, i cant afford to pay for it repair yet :hihi: Quote
Jay-qu Posted May 24, 2006 Report Posted May 24, 2006 It could be a boot problem, you have to tell the bios what drive to boot to. normally you have to press 'del' when you computer first turns on to get into the bios, once in it depends on what bios you have to where you will find the option. You should look for something like boot sequence. This is all useless of course if you computer doesnt even get this far.. do you see anything on the screen? Quote
alexander Posted May 25, 2006 Report Posted May 25, 2006 normaly del, but also F2, F8 or F10 may be used, depending on the motherboard, and sometimes you can't even access the bios at all, like in case of some, few, compaq machines.also does the system come up with no operating system found error at all? if not then chances are its not your hard drive itself. You said you ran 2 OSes, then it may be a bootloader issue. Have you tried booting from a live CD yet? either Ubuntu or Knoppix, and see whether your hard drives get mounted. Also have you tried to press enter or other keys, in case something is waiting for your input, but there is no output... also have you tried letting it run for a few minutes with that black screen up?
