All right, finally time for some contemplative discussion.

Step into the boots of a hypothetical man, Mr John Clemens.

Mr John is a well earning, respected man, who lives in a clean society.

He has a very close friend, named Gladvorsch.

Recently, Mr Gladworsch had been caught up in a very serious forgery scam, and Mr John is the only creditable witness.

Mr Gladworsch has pleaded innocent in court, and has succeded in hiding all the evidence he could.

However, Mr John, a very principled man will tell the truth in court.

Expressing panic, Mr Gladworsch offers Mr John a sum of ten million dollars for his silence.

Mr John comes home and relates the incident to his family.

His family strongly urges him to take the money, so that they can live a more comfortable life.

However, Mr John knows that the rest of the society, most of them his principled friends also know of Mr Gladworsch's reality.

What should he do? Should he betray his friend and family, by refusin the money, or should he openly display to the world of how greedy he could become?

What would you do?

Remember, be blunt, but think before you post.

The objective of this thread is to find out how far can a person go to fulfill his desires, by sacrificing his morals.

If the victims of Gladworsch’s scam are not rendered destitute by it, I would take the money, and use it to help the destitute. I would attempt to have his trial dismissed before a jury is not empanelled, then blackmail him until the time limitation of his crime has expired, encouraging him to repeat the scam as often as possible, diverting all the money gained to my charity.

If the victims of Gladworsch’s scam are rendered destitute by it, I would do everything in my power to compel Gladworsch to return what he has stolen.

PS: Though a good one, this doesn’t strike me as a Lounge-worthy thread. I suggest moving it to Philosophy.

i said no, simply becuase the source of the cash is unclear. i mean, it could be from the mafia, therefore (using godfather logic) i would be "obligated to do them a favor". no fun at all. besides, peopl ewho have life handed to them dont learn anything. just look at sociolites.

money occurs during life,

And go to jail for daylight robbery. Or possibly suffer a mafia assasination style death.

Yeah, I'd take the cash :hihi:.

Based on the fact that he is supposedly a good friend, and I hate the "justice" system :naughty:.

:D

I would then use the money to find a method to cryogenically freeze myself and friends to be revived at a time when interplanetary travel is not uncommon, and life can be unnaturally extended :). I would then deposit the remainder of my money in a place where I felt it would earn the most interest and I could then possibly be richer coming out of my cryogenically induced freeze than I had been before paying for it's technology :hyper:.

(Similar to Futurama, I know. But I've had this idea since before Futurama was even on the air ;).)
