Numerous threads posted by him relating to our common ancestry with the Bushmen and his anti-racists stance in general do not support this charge. He insisted on continuously arguing from authority, and dissing anybody else's comments or arguments based on things like age. He saw himself as the 'old, wise one', who, by virtue of being older than anybody else, simply must be right. This is apart from his blatant racism. When he arrived at Hypo, he told me that he's been banned from quite a couple of Science-related forums. I suspect they banned him for very much the same reasons. There's no hidden agenda or personal vendettas against your father, MoonBaby, there's simply the application of our forum rules which your father continuously ignored. We actually gave him way too much rope. The fact that he hanged himself with the rope we gave him, is sad, but if we don't enforce the rules that every member here must read and agree to when joining, what would be the point of having it? This is a Science Forum, and your dad was using it to try and pimp his book and philosophy, and that's simply just not on. Don't get all personal about this now - it's not. If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.
ronthepon Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 Back here, in India, you cannot afford to hurt the sentiments of any group of people, wether it be racism or anything else. It creates an outcry which can be fatal to the person who does so. Although I am nobody to say so, but MoonBaby, I feel that hypography cannot afford to be on the internet and still keep such posts. It may cause them problems. Let me add that I am attempting to be as cautious as possible in my posting. I have accidentally gone out of step, and have been reprimanded. But I understand that it is for the best of the site.

As a matter of principle the moderators vote over such things and we had a discussion about this just like we have with most other similar cases. Boerseun's explanation above is as far as we go (although others have chimed in with attempts at explanation in Orb's nice "I'm pissed" thread). We have stated in our rules - which you accepted when you signed up - that we do not need to give reasons when members are banned. A ban is however something we do impose unless there is repeated violations of our rules (except for spammers, which is unrelated to this issue), in particular when warnings have been given, and when communication between the member and our staff is not going well. You have 6 posts in this forum and as such I see how you can be in a position to accuse us of wrongdoing. If your only intention is to hurt our forums, please do ban yourself and go somewhere else. We are not forcing anyone to hang around. What do you know about how we run this site? As members of the forum staff, we try to treat everyone with respect, and we expect to get the same kind of respect back. We have no time for foul rants and angry messages. Please keep in mind that this site is run on everyone's spare time.

Thats good to know. I didnt understand fully why MM was banned, but it makes sense now, with all the added info that has been posted. Thanks to all of you (mods) who have let us know enough of what occured, that we understand the events better.

In the 1970’s during the height of the Apartheid regime my father earned a national reputation as the only senior producer on the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) who was prepared to stand up against the government and fight for black rights. His programs were banned and he was warned that he would be placed under house arrest by the Bureau of State Security. For this reason he went into self imposed exile and has campaigned around the world for the rights of the under privileged as his threads and posts on this forum so clearly demonstrate. Calling him a racist is a sick joke, and sad reflection of the blatant bias some members of this forum have displayed against his posts on human rights. And once again by quoting his private messages to you out of context, on a completely unrelated issue, you Boerseun, reveal your utter lack of personal integrity. This is the second time you have done so. You were called on the carpet for by another member on this forum, for this lack of principle. Your admission and apology for doing so then, and then doing it again, reveals how hollow and phony your honor really is, and shows you will stoop to any resort to gain a point. Not cool, man. Excepting Boerseun’s and BigDog’s words, who have both demonstrated repeatedly their personal vendetta against my father, by attacking his character personally instead of the ideas he is presenting, leads me to believe that you too are only to willing to get rid of a person who is presenting controversial ideas which you personally do not like, irrespective of whether any of the rest of your forum members do. As members of the forum staff, we try to treat everyone with respect So far that has not been demonstrated. I am surprised you feel disrespected simply because I am defending my Dad. I am glad to see that you are at least attempting to provide an explanation for banning him and demeaning his character but so far it is totally unsatisfactory and has in fact made the situation even more controversial. So I will add to my initial request by also insisting on receiving a public apology from all of you who have labeled my father a racist. I am not seeking to have my Dad reinstated. Short of a complete change in this administration or its attitude, I know he will not even think of returning.

This is to explain, amongst others, why Bushmen aren't as adept at mathematics than Westerners are. This is supposedly genetic in nature. There is, simply, no proof for this. The differences in mathematic capabilities between Bushmen, Westerners, and any other race of your choice, is cultural in nature. Insisting that it is genetical, is pure racism, regardless of how many documentaries your dad may have produced for the SABC. Calling him a racist is not a 'sick joke', it is simply pointing out what his attitude amounts to. Your whole post above is presenting your view on hypography, that you have composed after a grand total of seven posts. You might want to review your attitude slightly and refrain from making personal attacks such as the above again. Your father got banned because he refused to play by the rules. End of story.
