Boerseun Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 So - a thread for Stupid Questions, that most likely won't start up a conversation, needing only a simple answer. But here we can group them to provide some amusement when bored... First one - right up Chacmool's alley (linguistically speaking, that is). What would be the plural in Latin for your butt-muscle? One butt-muscle is a Gluteus Maximus. Would a pile of butt-muscles be Gluteus Maximii, Gluteii Maximii, or Gluteii Maximus? ;) Quote
Jay-qu Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 why is iceland greener than greenland and greenland have more ice than iceland? Quote
Boerseun Posted June 4, 2006 Author Report Posted June 4, 2006 Another rather stupid one: My laptop's battery has degraded to the point where I get about 30mins' worth of use out of it when unplugged. It used to be around 3 hours. What gives? Old age? Is there any way of restoring a laptop battery's previous 'stamina'? My friend used to have a paging business, in the days before cell phones, and he says that they simply reversed the charge across the poles, and they probably blew up about 2 out of every 10 batteries. The other 8 were as good as new after, and kept their charges for as long as they did when out of the box. Apparently, the batteries build up a kind of 'charge-memory', and all the molecules need to be reset in the previous alignment. Sounds crazy, I know, but at an 80% success rate, there must be something to this. Any ideas? I'm not about to haul out plenty cash for a stupid battery if there's a solution to electrical Alzheimer's. Quote
Queso Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 why is iceland greener than greenland and greenland have more ice than iceland? the vikings initiated these names to fool fellow sailors. Quote
Jay-qu Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 I have exactly the same problem. When a battery discharges atoms give up electrons and others accept them, this produces energy-when you recharge a battery you push the electrons backwards so that the atom has its electrons back, this uses up energy. Every time you do this not every atom will get its electon back, so slowly but surely the battery becomes less and less effective. Quote
Racoon Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 why is iceland greener than greenland and greenland have more ice than iceland? Because of History Jay-Q. When the Vikings discovered these lands, they "opposited" the names to encourage/discourage settlement. Iceland was named such as to discourage, when they wanted people to colonize "Green"land... :) ;) Quote
Boerseun Posted June 4, 2006 Author Report Posted June 4, 2006 Actually Boerseun, there is the Gluteus Maximus, Gluteus Minimus, amd Gluteus Medias...that comprise the Butt:) ... Kinesiologically Yours,Beer Trader Racoon...errr... Okay, thanks - but my question was about the latin plural for it. So, what is it? ;) Quote
Racoon Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 ...errr...Okay, thanks - but my question was about the latin plural for it. That IS it...That IS the plural. I already said...There are thousands of myofibrils..."Maximus" includes them all...:) Don't think too deep, I can smell the smoke from your overworked neurons...;) If I'm wrong, take me out to the wood shed and shoot me. Does Greenland have Internet access? Quote
Jay-qu Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 no keep thinking - your plural makes up one bum, what is then multiple bums Quote
ughaibu Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 If we're still speaking latin, ba is the plural of bum. Quote
Dark Mind Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 "Bum" meaning a homeless person, or someone's arse? Quote
ughaibu Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 Then there's 'bum' the verb, "can I bum a fag?", not one for the USA. Quote
Dark Mind Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 Oh, but it is . Not the "fag" part, but people frequently request to "Bum a cig." off someone :D. Quote
ughaibu Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 Can they still find a place to smoke it? Dark Mind 1 Quote
Dark Mind Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 :D Good one :D. Yeah, occasionally. Some Colleges allow smoking on campus (like mine), smoking is legal on sidewalks and in cars too, and of course in your own home ;). Many bars don't allow smoking any more though . Quote
Jay-qu Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 thats really good, smoking is legal in most places, public dining areas are smoke free and any building that decides they dont want smoking indoors Quote
