TheBigDog Posted June 10, 2006 Report Posted June 10, 2006 Thanks guys! I have been a few days in replying to this thread because I wanted to make sure and do so properly. I would be lying if I were to say that this milestone meant nothing to me. When I first discovered Hypography I was both intimidated and fascinated by the level of sophistication found here. People discussing the finer details of concepts that I had almost no grasp on. People having intellectual exchanges on science, philosophy, art, math... every topic under the sun. And there was a feeling of respect seen in the exchanges between individuals - even when they were at absolute odds with each other on the topics they were discussing. I knew I had found a home. My first post in the Introductions thread talked about how I looked forward to learning, teaching sometimes, and that I would try and keep up. This milestone is vindication to me that I have been keeping up. I was not really aware of how the whole rep system worked until I had almost 30 points. When I hit my 50th post I saw my first rep power. Six. I think I got my second blue box around the same time. I remember hovering my cursor over the blue boxes to see the phrase had changed. And each and every time I got a point or got another blue box it meant something to me. It meant that someone approved of what I was saying. Someone had taken notice of my words, among all the profound choices available in these fine threads, and taken the time to recognize them as being special or meaningful in some way. And that feeling of recognition, of acceptance for my thoughts and words, is comforting in a way that... well, in a way that I feel many others here understand. I have never written a thank you note to someone for giving me rep. And I am not entirely sure if there is an accepted protocol for such things. But I wanted to take the time here to thank everyone who has taken the time to rep me, and in doing so make me feel the honor of being considered a peer in such fine company. Thank you all. ;) Bill Quote
