HydrogenBond Posted June 9, 2006 Report Posted June 9, 2006 I am not a religion fanatic but a scientist that is spiritual. The way I look at it, traditionally morality is pretty old, much of its goes back thousands of years. Back then people were a lot closer to natural living. They did not have the science and technology of modern times. Some of these moral laws were time proven correlations for selective advantage in the natural environment, without all the artificial support of modern science. Under the conditions of the STD's natural disaster, if children remained celebate until marriage they would survive and thrive. If one had been and continued to be monogamous in or out of marriage, they would survive and thrive. Those who are celebate would survive. Maybe even polygamous relationships with fixed partners would survive. This sounds like the path suggested by moral law. It gave one selective advantage in the ancient natural world and allowed cultural to expand. I won't go into the list of dinosaurs, that would be cruel. Once culture cleaned up and some time had past, there may be room for some of the deselective behavior to reappear. There may be a certain ratio that would not lead to another natural disaster. But if culture exceeded the natural ratio, here we go again. It is socially incorrect to suggest there is selective advantage in certain types of behavior and disadvantage in others. To suggest running an experiment, like suggested, to see, is also socially incorrect and therefore stacks the deck against having know for sure. What is left is a little logic and common sense, using a hypothetical experiment. Relative behavior is an irrational position that may not benefit by logic or common sense. It will accept data from experiments that can never be run. Quote
IDMclean Posted June 9, 2006 Report Posted June 9, 2006 some of the deselective behavior to reappear What about when a formerly Deselective Behavior becomes beneficial? and therefore Selective? Humans are made to be Polyamourous creatures. The proof as I like to say is in the pudding. Look at any health young man, who will continue being able to produce offspring well into his 50-70 and some who can produce all the way up into their 90s. Women aren't built for multipul children, however they are capable with the help of other people of raising multipul children at a time. Also I hard read somewhere about the habits of women to select for big strong men, and then a tendency to seek out Men who are more suited for child rearing, sensitive, nurturing personalities. My anscestors are an example of this, being that they had a clan structure. just a thought, concidering that at this rate mankind will begin shrinking. Quote
