Thanks FT for the explanation. The additive part is new to me. It's good to learn something new, especially on a topic that would at first glance seem so basic. I did always wonder why the old large screen projection TVs had no yellow light.

well, its very simple, why do u think we can see stars? they are emmitting visible light that our very simple but usefull eyes can pick up. think about when you turn your light off in your room, all you see is black, you look around and see on red blinking light coming from your maybe your tv or phone. this is like the star.

 

we see this star and nothing else and think oooo thats all there is. but if only we could turn on the lights and see the whole room how amazed would we be.
