cwes99_03 Posted June 8, 2006 Report Posted June 8, 2006 I am like Tormod. It is particularly bad during the summer, though the situation has improved with air conditioning. If it was a steamy night growing up on the farm, I would lay in bed til 3 in the morning before I finally fell asleep, and generally my dad was waking me up at 5:30.Now I tend to try and be in bed by midnight and generally get up by 6, meaning actual sleep time is between 4 and 6 hours. bpjg2fat Posted June 8, 2006 Report Posted June 8, 2006 I started working the graveyard shift at albertsons so my sleep scedule is all ****ed up. I take a 2 hour nap right before work and after work i sleep for a good 4-6 hours. But I have to say, working graveyard is a great way to ****ing up your sleep scedule. Quote
Racoon Posted June 8, 2006 Report Posted June 8, 2006 I try to sleep at least 10 hours each night during the week. If I sleep less than 8, I can barely function the next day. Various doctors reckon I suffer from fibromyalgia and/or so-called yuppie flu. I look forward to weekends mainly because then I can sleep more. Ideally, I would like to sleep about 14 hours a day. My cat really enjoys all the sleeping that goes on in my house. :) I lived in Spain for a year, and found their lifestyle much more agreeable. I really liked the siesta time, even though I didn't always sleep. I also liked going to bed later and getting up later. Maybe there's just something "wrong" with my circadian rhythm. geez Chacmool, you are a walking compendium of conditions. :) So thats how you know Spanish amiga. Vivias en Espana. :D fibromyalgia is still a little misunderstood and mysterious. I wouldn't call it "yuppie flu". I know two people who say they have it. Isn't it a bit sporadic , that feels like a blanket of pain wrapped around you? good days and bad days?are you sure its not psychosomatic? I should do a little research on it... Anywayz, one of my friends who has it is my age and he got a Medical Marijuana card for it. The other is an elderly lady who battles the episodes of intermittent pain. Sleep requirements are different for different people obviously... 14 hours? whoa! :hihi: :singer:... Duermes mucho ;) I love sleeping next to my kitty cat. (ps, thanks for listing the keyboard functions for Spanish in the "foro".. I am going back and writing them down. Sweet Dreams Chacmool. :) Quote
BluesMan Posted June 8, 2006 Report Posted June 8, 2006 I put 6-8, but it's more like 5-8 with the rare 9 thrown in. Quote
Dark Mind Posted June 8, 2006 Report Posted June 8, 2006 Hmm, I wonder what I should put since my "normal" schedule is sleep one night then don't the next. I usually get about 6-8 hours of sleep on the nights that I do sleep... Divide by 2 and put 3-4 hours? ;) I haven't been diagnosed with insomnia, although it is quite apparent to me that I have it ;). Quote
Dark Mind Posted June 8, 2006 Report Posted June 8, 2006 I assume nights are included. 2-4 hours here.Well, T. Looks like we get the least amount of sleep out of everyone ;). We're the only ones to vote for 2-4 hours ;). Maybe we should try and get in some extra Z's this weekend to celebrate . Quote
ronthepon Posted June 10, 2006 Report Posted June 10, 2006 You guys sleep so less. What do you do to keep this up? Let me guess. PARTY! I envy you two. Quote
Tormod Posted June 10, 2006 Report Posted June 10, 2006 You guys sleep so less. What do you do to keep this up? Let me guess. PARTY! I envy you two. With 2 kids (age 3 and 5) "party" is synonymous with "children's birthday" here. It's not fun to finally go to sleep at 4am knowing you have to get up in two hours because the little critters have to get ready for daycare and school... Quote

Going to sleep at 4? I'd rather not sleep at all then... (I'll have the next day to find time) Quote
Dark Mind Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 Basically the same here, except I take your approach Ron. Instead of torturing myself with just a few hours of sleep knowing I'll have to get up at 6 or 7 I simply choose to not sleep at all that night, and I usuall y get to bed comparatively early the following night and wake up fairly early as well... Sometimes around 4:30am. I don't party to stay awake but I'm positive it would help :hihi:. Don't envy us. Or at least me. These hours are wreaking havoc on me. My dad hasn't accepted the fact that I stay awake all night right into the morning... He believes I should be sleeping every night and forces me to just lie in bed all night occasionally. I get a sick pleasure out of being wide awake when he finally gets up to check and see if my borredom of sitting alone in the dark for 6-8 hours had put me to sleep. It pisses him off so much :eek2:. Chacmool Posted June 13, 2006 Report Posted June 13, 2006 Well, it seems that I'm the sleepy head around here! No matter how much I sleep, it just never seems enough. Quote
Drip Curl Magic Posted June 15, 2006 Report Posted June 15, 2006 my sleeping habits have always been wildly unpredictable. Some weeks, I'll sleep a full 8 hours everynight. Some weeks, I'll only sleep every other night. Some weeks, I'll just stay up for the first half of the week and then sleep and feel really shitty and sluggish the rest of the week. some weeks, 10-15 hours every night. and it fluctuates for no real reason at all other than brain activity. I'm an occasional insomniac. Quote
HappytheStripper Posted June 15, 2006 Report Posted June 15, 2006 Well I dont get alot of sleep .. I go to bed at all kinds of weird hours .. because routine changes constantly .. I sleep where I can .. like most of us .. I usually gain maybe .. 5 hours sleep if that ..sometimes Im luckier .. lol .. depends how hard I'm working .. Have any of you ever thought about the massive sleep debt you occur throughout a lifetime .. ?? Ashley Quote
HappytheStripper Posted June 15, 2006 Report Posted June 15, 2006 Sleep debt? Nice new terminology... Yeah .. The way I see it so far .. 64.71% of all people who have replied to this thread gain between 4-6 hours sleep per day .. so Im assuming this is the normal range ..and I fall in between this .. however .. Say for instance .. I am awake longer and sleep .. say .. 3 hours for that night .. I have 2 hours less sleep .. or there about .. and Im never gonna catch it .. because its historical .. past .. I call this the sleep debt .. and it may accrue over a short or long period of time .. say I go a week of 3 hours sleep when Im used to 6 and I have accrued 21 hours of sleep debt .. There are 168 hours in one week .. just another way of looking at it .. Ashley Quote
Dark Mind Posted June 15, 2006 Report Posted June 15, 2006 Sleep debt? Now that's looking at it in a negative light... Just think of all the extra time that you spend awake, constantly learning new and exciting things :hihi:. Kinda hard to experience life when your unconscious on a bed . I enjoy being awake and can't stand the thought that whilst I'm sleeping, I could be awake doing something. I'd much rather experience life in a conscious state . Quote
Jay-qu Posted June 15, 2006 Report Posted June 15, 2006 sleep debt is a perfectly acceptable way of looking at it, its actually how I do it  I aim for 9 hours a night, if you get 8 then you have to sleep 10 the next night to make up, otherwise it just accumulates and eventually I crash Quote
