Saitia Posted June 8, 2006 Report Posted June 8, 2006 I'm trying to post a poll; the community polls page says I cannot post a poll. This is supposed to be a privilege available to level two users with more than 10 posts. Any ideas as to what the problem is? Is this really the easiest way to get an answer to this kind of problem? Quote
Turtle Posted June 8, 2006 Report Posted June 8, 2006 I'm trying to post a poll; the community polls page says I cannot post a poll. This is supposed to be a privilege available to level two users with more than 10 posts. Any ideas as to what the problem is? Is this really the easiest way to get an answer to this kind of problem? It may have something to do with the number of threads you have started as well as how many posts you have. This User Feedback space is regularly monitored and/or you might PM one of the admins with the problem.;) Quote
Saitia Posted June 8, 2006 Author Report Posted June 8, 2006 It may have something to do with the number of threads you have started as well as how many posts you have. This User Feedback space is regularly monitored and/or you might PM one of the admins with the problem.:singer: Thank you Turtle; actually, I did PM Tormod, Infy, and TheBigDog, because I saw they were here; a lot like chasing feathers in a gail, though. Infy steered me to the FAQ, The Dog is checking, but probably started sniffing something else, and Tormod said this was the place to ask such questions; so apparently I've gotta start a bunch of threads before I can handle the stresses of a community poll? Is there no end to the idiosyncrasies of the scientific mind?:hihi: Quote
Turtle Posted June 8, 2006 Report Posted June 8, 2006 Thank you Turtle; ... Is there no end to the idiosyncrasies of the scientific mind?:hihi: You're welcome & I certainly hope not.:singer: Quote
Turtle Posted June 8, 2006 Report Posted June 8, 2006 An afterthought: Any thread you start, you may attach a poll to whether it's in the Polls Forum or not. Go to your thread & click on the Thread Tools button above the first post, then choose 'Attach a Poll to This Thread'. The poll then appears as a header to that thread, but does not appear in the Recent Polls box on the main page. This concludes another idiosyncratic urge.:hihi: Edella 1 Quote
Saitia Posted June 8, 2006 Author Report Posted June 8, 2006 You're welcome & I certainly hope not.:hihi: :singer: The kicker is, I can open a poll HERE, but not there! Quote
Tormod Posted June 8, 2006 Report Posted June 8, 2006 so apparently I've gotta start a bunch of threads before I can handle the stresses of a community poll? Is there no end to the idiosyncrasies of the scientific mind?:hihi: Can you imagine how many PMs I get from users who have the same questions, over and over and over? Posting it here makes it easier for others to help out, as you might have noticed (others have already replied). Where exactly are you trying to post a poll? I asked you that in the PM I sent you. Let me know and I can check the permission settings. Quote
Tormod Posted June 8, 2006 Report Posted June 8, 2006 I'm trying to post a poll; the community polls page says I cannot post a poll. Like I also said in my PM - only moderators, admins, and a few members can post in the Community Polls forum. The reason for this is that these polls show up on the front page. :hihi: Quote
cwes99_03 Posted June 8, 2006 Report Posted June 8, 2006 OK, since we seem to have an answer. I'm voting this poll be sent to the watercooler, because it is quite funny and provides some nice stress-relief to the end of a hard day.Catch you all tomorrow.C Hey BTW, my clock here says 4:45 but apparently the Hypo time clock is 8 min faster, someone want to check on that. InfiniteNow Posted June 8, 2006 Report Posted June 8, 2006 Hey BTW, my clock here says 4:45 but apparently the Hypo time clock is 8 min faster, someone want to check on that. Yep... I just confirmed it. Your clock is wrong. ;) Quote
Dark Mind Posted June 8, 2006 Report Posted June 8, 2006 Yeah, Hypo time is a bit fast. I have my clocks all set to the exact time (I call the 1(619)853-1212 number and you hear a recording saying exactly what time it is every 10 seconds. Good morning/evening, at the tone Pacific Standard time will be 4:20... exactly. *BEEP*. ... Good morning/evening, at the tone Pacific Standard time will be 4:20, and 10 seconds... *BEEP*.) I'll let you know exactly how fast after this reply ;). I'm gonna wait 'til one of my clocks hits 3:31 then see what time Hypo says it is ;). (This isn't really Watercooler material, btw...) Quote
Dark Mind Posted June 8, 2006 Report Posted June 8, 2006 Nope, not 8 minutes off... It's 9 minutes off ;). Quote
Saitia Posted June 9, 2006 Author Report Posted June 9, 2006 Can you imagine how many PMs I get from users who have the same questions, over and over and over? Yeah, I can. That's why I asked two other staff members who were online. Posting it here makes it easier for others to help out, as you might have noticed (others have already replied).Which was great, except they didn't have any authori-tie to fix the problem, only make suggestions. Where exactly are you trying to post a poll? I asked you that in the PM I sent you. Here is your PM response:"Yes, but it depends on where you want to post it. The announcement forum is for admins, editors, and moderators only."Please ask this kind of questions in the User Feedback forum so others can help out and also see the solution." I didn't see a question there; only a request to post my question somewhere else. Let me know and I can check the permission settings. I was trying to post a poll in "Community Polls." Wouldn't it have been a LOT more efficient to simply check my permission settings?;) Quote
Saitia Posted June 9, 2006 Author Report Posted June 9, 2006 Like I also said in my PM - only moderators, admins, and a few members can post in the Community Polls forum. The reason for this is that these polls show up on the front page. ;)Here is your post again:"Yes, but it depends on where you want to post it. The announcement forum is for admins, editors, and moderators only."Please ask this kind of questions in the User Feedback forum so others can help out and also see the solution." So the "announcement forum" is synonymous with "Community Polls forum"?Where would one come by that information, or the information you supplied above, without having to ask someone for it? Quote

The announcement forum is for admins, editors, and moderators only."Please ask this kind of questions in the User Feedback forum so others can help out and also see the solution." So the "announcement forum" is synonymous with "Community Polls forum"? The Community polls reside within the "Announcements - Please read" forum. Did you get help or not? Sounds to me like you are really upset about something. It's not like we're not interested in getting you sorted here. Where would one come by that information, or the information you supplied above, without having to ask someone for it? The fact that you were not allowed to post polls in that forum was the first clue. The second was my PM and Turtle's response, above. Posting it here makes it easier for others to help out, as you might have noticed (others have already replied).Which was great, except they didn't have any authori-tie to fix the problem, only make suggestions It wasn't a problem, so there was nothing for them to fix. That forum is simply not available for everyone to post polls in. Everyone can VOTE in the polls there, though. Now, is there anything else we can do for you? :) Turtle 1 Quote
cwes99_03 Posted June 9, 2006 Report Posted June 9, 2006 I'm sorry Satia, I should have spoken up the first time I saw this because I had asked the same question before. Only reason I didn't is because I had to run, and I expected someone else to take care of it. By the time I came back, Tor had already answered your question.Tor, I was under the impression that we had to ask for permission to join that group that has permission to post in the community polls forum. Is that still the case? Quote

Is that still the case? In fact, NO members are supposed to be able to post in the polls forums except a select few. However, on closer inspection I have found that Lounge members can post in the polls forum. That sounds like a reasonable requirement, so I'll leave that option available. So to post in the polls forum, join the lounge. Information on how to join the lounge is found in - the Lounge. :) Quote
