Neomis Posted June 13, 2006 Report Posted June 13, 2006 I'm a recent college grad (B.S. in Communication Studies) and have a strong interest in basically all facets of Science. I have taken classes in Chemistry, Astronomy, Psychology, Medical Geography, Biology, and I loved all of them. I know, why didn't I major in a science if I like it so much?....the answer is because I did not really know what I liked when I chose my major. However, I love science and am glad I found these forums to learn more and share my thoughts with you all. :naughty: Quote
TheBigDog Posted June 13, 2006 Report Posted June 13, 2006 Welcome to Hypography Neomis! If you have a love of science you have come to the right place. Congratulations on your recent graduation. Bill Quote
InfiniteNow Posted June 13, 2006 Report Posted June 13, 2006 Hello Neomis, Welcome to Hypography. What about the communications program helped you decide on that? Was it more linguistics, neurobiology of speech, you just wanted to be a radio announcer? Anyway, it's nice to have another Texan on the site (watch for Pyrotex, he's a spicy meatball indeed). I look forward to your contributions. Enjoy! :hihi: Quote
Neomis Posted June 14, 2006 Author Report Posted June 14, 2006 I majored in Communication Studies because of interest in social interactions and communicative behaviors. I took some great classes (Interpersonal Communication, Lying and Deception, Nonverbal Comm, Comm in Close Relationships, Language and Cultural Comm, etc) that really taught me some good stuff about the way people interact. The ironic thing is that I am actually quite shy and a bit socially anxious. Quote
InfiniteNow Posted June 14, 2006 Report Posted June 14, 2006 The best way to overcome our fears is to face them... as well as to educate ourselves about them. Cheers. :) Quote
Turtle Posted June 14, 2006 Report Posted June 14, 2006 Welcome Neomis. How does the passing on of unsupported sayings fall out in your communication studies? Now I'm not saying Infinitenow is lying, but I have to call him out on the quaint saying: The best way to overcome our fears is to face them... :)Numerous counter-examples come to mind such as the fear of shooting yourself in the eye if you look down the barrel of a gun. And so it goes.  Quote
