Turtle Posted June 13, 2006 Report Posted June 13, 2006 Have you ever hunted, killed, & eaten an animal? Quote
Turtle Posted June 13, 2006 Author Report Posted June 13, 2006 Sorry! I have no idea what happend there in the Poll Title. Fortunately the options came clear. You know what to do. /forums/images/smilies/banana_sign.gif Quote
Jay-qu Posted June 13, 2006 Report Posted June 13, 2006 I have killed and eaten an animal, but I dont consider fishing to be hunting  I would like to try it though Quote

Good point on the fish. Technically we must include it as hunting given the poll choices. As you have demonstrated, we can debate the finer points here in the thread. I have fished & eaten my catch, I have hunted deer & taken none, & I have shot & eaten a rabbit. Quote
InfiniteNow Posted June 13, 2006 Report Posted June 13, 2006 Do humans count? Just a little Jeffrey Dommer-esque humor there... Quote
Jay-qu Posted June 13, 2006 Report Posted June 13, 2006 I dont consider fishing hunting because hunting normally requires stalking and actually choosing your prey, while fishing you dont do that, you trick the fish and the fish chooses you not the other way round  In this case though, I guess spear fishing could be considered hunting, and I have done that - but not eaten any of them. OK So noted; however for the purpose of the poll you are required by law to consider any means of fishing as "hunting". I 'tricked' that rabbit I shot by holding still & quiet so it thought everything was oky-doky. I forgot to mention all the frogs I have hunted, killed, & eaten the legs of by hook or by crook. PS In my state of Washington in the USA, frogs are the only animal it is legal to kill (harvest? take?) with either a hunting or fishing license. Neomis Posted June 13, 2006 Report Posted June 13, 2006 Well I have fished and eaten it, however I answered "no, but I plan to". However, I have always wanted to hunt without a gun sometime to make it more fair for both parties and a bit more adventuresome. Perhaps with a large knife or a bow and arrow. :) Quote
Jay-qu Posted June 14, 2006 Report Posted June 14, 2006 I read an article about these guys that hunt large wild bores with large knifes, thats it, pretty dangerous but apparently it gives them a rush  Quote
TheBigDog Posted June 14, 2006 Report Posted June 14, 2006 Do bugs count? I have eaten my share of ants. How about grubs and worms? Bill Quote
Turtle Posted June 14, 2006 Author Report Posted June 14, 2006 Do bugs count? I have eaten my share of ants. How about grubs and worms? Bill:) Good grief & oh bother. Again by technicality, yes bugs count. But!....only if you had to hunt for them. And yes, laying in ambush or setting a trap is hunting...technically for the purpose of this now-ill-gotten survey. Quote
TheBigDog Posted June 14, 2006 Report Posted June 14, 2006 I read an article about these guys that hunt large wild bores with large knifes, thats it, pretty dangerous but apparently it gives them a rush :shrug:When I was 7 I went boar hunting with my dad. I had my little .22 Winchester with the 18" barrel (1902 model). His instructions were to say up where the pig couldn't get to me. If it came close to stick the barrel in the pigs mouth and pull the trigger because the bullet wouldn't stop it from the outside. We sat at the edge of this boggy runout with big clumps of grass growing out of the mud. I can still remeber every detail. I sat quiet next to my dad for what seemed like forever waiting for a pig to walk by. None did and we hiked back to the station wagon and drove back to camp. That same weekend a man in the area had tried to hunt a boar with a spear. He speared a several hundred pound wild boar with it and then got killed by the pig goreing him and beating him to death with the end of the spear that was sticking out. Both were found dead. Wild pigs can be very dangerous, but they make good eating and great stories to tell your kids. Bill Quote
infamous Posted June 14, 2006 Report Posted June 14, 2006 Being a native Missourian where wildgame is plentyful, as a youth I've fished and hunted and eaten almost every sort of wildgame there is.I especially like squirrel and wild rabbit. Game foul of all sorts, quail, wild duck and pheasant. As for fishing, blue gill or small mouth bass can't be beat...............Infy Quote
Jay-qu Posted June 14, 2006 Report Posted June 14, 2006 Wild pigs can be very dangerous, but they make good eating and great stories to tell your kids. Im sure they do.. The method I read was that you bring a couple of dogs with you, let them loose, they hunt down the pig, you follow, then jump on the pigs back hold on tight and cut the things throat before it can fling you off and gore you... TheFaithfulStone Posted June 14, 2006 Report Posted June 14, 2006 I think running boar with dogs is illegal in most places. I've killed and eaten quail. They're yummy. And fish of course. Quote
Edella Posted June 14, 2006 Report Posted June 14, 2006 The only thing I ask of hunters is that they be respectful of their quarry and the land,Ive seen drunk *** hunting one too many times,it's disrespectful not to mention dangerous;drink after the hunt! Quote
