Boerseun Posted June 14, 2006 Report Posted June 14, 2006 The only thing I ask of hunters is that they be respectful of their quarry and the land,Ive seen drunk *** hunting one too many times,it's disrespectful not to mention dangerous;drink after the hunt! The only time it's allowed to get shitfaced before the hunt, is when your name is Dick Cheney and you're out to shoot you some lawyers! Party on! Damn lawyers... Quote
HappytheStripper Posted June 14, 2006 Report Posted June 14, 2006 Hubby and I hunt regularly for eating .. and for pest management .. Qfwfq Posted June 14, 2006 Report Posted June 14, 2006 if you have a weak stomach .. they are not as bad as Raccoons thread ..These pictures may however be upsetting to sensitive people, although they aren't totally unacceptable for most, and I don't quite see the point or necessity of having them directly in the post. It might be a better idea to link to them, as Racoon did in STD after he was told off, with warning that viewers might not like them. :naughty: Quote
Tormod Posted June 14, 2006 Report Posted June 14, 2006 I dont consider fishing hunting because hunting normally requires stalking and actually choosing your prey, while fishing you dont do that, you trick the fish and the fish chooses you not the other way round :D Well - I consider fishing to be "hunting light", and frankly your chances for a catch is higher in fishing than hunting (in most cases, anyways). When fishing "blind" in new lakes etc then yeah, it's a chance game. But when I'm at our summer house by the fjord I seek the places where I know the cod is and I catch fish in 80-90% of those fishing trips. Quote

BluesMan Posted June 14, 2006 Report Posted June 14, 2006 Elk, Deer, Bear, Rabbit, Waterfowl, Pheasants, Doves, Partridge, Sage hen, I'm sure I left something out; and just about every type of fish out there.Center fire Rifle, Rim fire, Black Powder, fresh water, and ocean.Used to take the shotgun to school so we could hunt pheasant after class or at lunch. Quit hunting about 15 years ago; don't know if I could kill something for sport anymore. I still support hunting for those that enjoy it.Have only fished maybe 3 times in the past 5 years Quote
ronthepon Posted June 14, 2006 Report Posted June 14, 2006 Hunting for sport and hunting to eat. What about hunting for your backyard's integrity? I've shot at boars with high powered air rifles. Not that it penetrates the skin of the dirty brute. GRREARRGHHH! Quote

It was suggested, and I quickly linked them due to the graphic nature...:hihi: No! I do not hunt. :hihi: Enough people are out there killing wildlifeFishing yes. :hihi: I can go to my moms property on the Lewis River and relax with a tackle box and pole. If I shoot something, Its a Basketball! :hihi: :hihi: Quote

Drip Curl Magic Posted June 15, 2006 Report Posted June 15, 2006 I read an article about these guys that hunt large wild bores with large knifes, thats it, pretty dangerous but apparently it gives them a rush  I'm friends with people who do that. Basically, all they have.... is a very large and sharp knife... and a pack of dogs to track and surround the boar as the human with the knife runs in and tries to slash the boar's throat or something. Those boars are tough, man. Lots of the dogs get pretty torn up. 4-10 dogs on one boar... and the dogs are still in danger of getting pretty badly wounded. crazy stuff. Quote
Drip Curl Magic Posted June 15, 2006 Report Posted June 15, 2006 I hardly ever fish.... but I have a weird nack for it. last time I went fishing... it was up in yosemite. I ended up catching 6 fish. no one else caught any. I've also "hunted" crawdads. Took me quite a while to catch one.... but I was overjoyed when I finally did. I must have been about 7 years old at the time. I used to shoot birds with a bb gun in my backyard. I've always felt better about killing if I eat what I kill..... in the name of survival. Ya know? bbq pidgeon wings... anyone? Quote
Jules Grimm Posted June 15, 2006 Report Posted June 15, 2006 Can we add an option to the poll for "I have hunted, killed, and eaten a lawyer?" Please dont, because as much as there are jokes around about lawyers, my father is a lawyer and while i know there are some seriously crooked one's out there it makes me fall bad for tmy father to hear comments like that. Even if it was meant as a joke. I know i sound like i have zero sense of humour, but sometimes it just gets a little much - sorry. Quote
arkain101 Posted June 16, 2006 Report Posted June 16, 2006 I think people sometimes forget where they really live! and what life is really about. Sure, its very possible for some who plan to never kill and eat an animal may never need or want to hunt and kill and eat. But, it is too very possible you may learn nature does not have a grocery store and if the situation happens to confront you and you want to live, survive and keep your family alive, well, somthing has gotta die for that effect to continue. We are fortunate to be living in the times we do with its considerably advanced technology. I just thought I would point out if we take away electricity and many other sources of energy. There is going to be alot of starving human beings if they dont figure out where food comes from in the real sense. I do think we walk a thin line. A few conflicts could change oil prices quite extremely. If this change was extreme enough electrical power and many other things, as I am sure you can imagine, would cease to stay in operation. Its fine that some people refuse to hunt. Its actually a good thing that everyone does not hunt. There would be some serious decline in animal population. However, with all that said we arent truly any more superior than anything else that lives on this planet. There is very much a possibility you could find yourself finding scrap food amongst other creatures.. not likely but surely does happen. Quote

dagaz Posted June 16, 2006 Report Posted June 16, 2006 As for killing and eating I've really only done fishing - both freshwater and marine - and always eating anything caught that was both edible and legal (we have size and bag limits on the fish we can take here in Australia, don't know about elsewhere). But back when I was doing a lot of environmental protesting, we had a 'roadkill cafe' set up at one of our forest blockades. We would have a crew go out each night and scour the road for fresh road kill, mainly kangaroo and wallaby, then bring them back to be skinned (for their fur) and cooked. Kangaroo is quite a nice meat. When I spent some time with the Aboriginals out in the desert I went with them a few times while they hunted, but never did any of the hunting myself (although I did help in the eating ). Quote
