Aki Posted October 13, 2004 Report Posted October 13, 2004 I heard that a long time ago, like maybe 40 years ago, an alien spacecraft crashed onto the Earth. It has been said that most of the aliens on the spacecraft died, but there was a survivor. Does anyone know anymore detail? Quote
Tormod Posted October 13, 2004 Report Posted October 13, 2004 Yes. You probably mean the Roswell incident 1947. One of the big hoaxes of all time. Here is a very interesting article about it from the Skeptical Inquirer: What Really Happened at Roswellhttp://www.csicop.org/si/9707/roswell.html Quote
Aki Posted October 14, 2004 Author Report Posted October 14, 2004 Thanks Tormod, that's the thing I was talking about. I didn't know what it was called. Quote
Aki Posted October 14, 2004 Author Report Posted October 14, 2004 Do you really believe in that article, that no extraterrial spacecraft was involved? Quote
Tormod Posted October 14, 2004 Report Posted October 14, 2004 Well, let's put it the other way round: I don't believe an extraterrestrial spacecraft has ever crashed on Earth. Quote
Freethinker Posted October 14, 2004 Report Posted October 14, 2004 What value would there bo to alien visitation, as is typically presented by UFOers? We are a small non-descript planet circling a medium to small sun on the outer arm of our galaxy. What about us would draw attention? OK, there is the chance some unintended galactic voyage would go astray and we would arbitrarily wind up the crash site. But the chances of that? Esp with all of the much more massive gravitational bodies immediately surrounding us. What of intentional visitation as UFOers like to promote? To do what? To "probe" us with what would seem antiquated instraments? Any species far enough advanced to make the trip would be far from that backwards in medical technology. For these and many other reason, it just does not make good sense. Quote
Aki Posted October 15, 2004 Author Report Posted October 15, 2004 Well some people say aliens are the people from the future, and they have traveled back in time to see us. Quote
Uncle Martin Posted October 15, 2004 Report Posted October 15, 2004 Alot of people "think" alot of nonsense. There is no evidence that aliens have ever visited Earth or that people from the future have traveled back in time to see us. Unless you have some evidence you wish to share with us that is. Quote
Bo Posted October 15, 2004 Report Posted October 15, 2004 I personnaly believe there is (intelligent) extraterestrial life; Even if the chances for life to evolve are extremely small, the universe is so incredibly huge that only 1 life-spawning event seems imho quite rediculous. I am also convinced no aliens have ever visited earth. For the simple reason: Why would you travel a zillion light years -notice that the technology to do so is waaaaaaay advanced; so if you do that you're probably very smart!- to come to this planet and then 1) Get captured by some George Bush wannabe? (i dont think any sensible person would capture an alien....)2) Make nice pictures in crop fields?3) remove the rectum of a cow?..... Bo Quote
Tim_Lou Posted October 15, 2004 Report Posted October 15, 2004 it could be possible that the "aliens" are playing with us like we play with our dogs.... (dont mean any offend) Quote
Freethinker Posted October 15, 2004 Report Posted October 15, 2004 While we can only imagine, and with little chance of being correct, what an "alien"/ extraterrestrial would look like, we CAN understand what parameters they would likely operate under. Whether they have two heads, antennae, one big eye, no eyes, ... they still have restrictions as to available energy sources. It requires, even with our most foreward looking dreams, energy resources to travel thru space. Any extraterestrial species would have to have developed from less advanced species (Evolved). They would have had to fight the same energy source battles we have. Even if they have developed such advanced potential energy sources as Cold Fusion or ???, there is still socio-economic costs that any society would face. The efforts would have to be justified by some potential ROI. Just as we originally developed dog species to perform work, or harnessed horses as power sources, we have only more recently had enough resources to turn food or work resources into play toys. Therefore we need to realize that these extraterestrials would have to have had space travel for an ecceptional period of time before it would turn into a play toy. One that would allow them to play "with us like we play with our dogs", or as Bo states Originally posted by: Bo1) Get captured by some George Bush wannabe? (i dont think any sensible person would capture an alien....)2) Make nice pictures in crop fields?3) remove the rectum of a cow?..... Or even if time travellers from the futureOriginally posted by: Akitraveled back in time to see us.it would be for a specific ROI. Yes we could come up with any number of fun things we could do to them, they to us, or non-fun.... But there is always an need for an ROI. And extreme technologies have extreme costs t offset. Quote
BlameTheEx Posted October 15, 2004 Report Posted October 15, 2004 Bo Now that's an easy one. If it travels thousands of light years to visit us, how can it be intelligent? Quote
Tormod Posted October 15, 2004 Report Posted October 15, 2004 Or as Calvin says (in Calvin and Hobbes): "I think the best evidence for intelligent life in the universe is that nobody has come to visit us." Quote
Uncle Martin Posted October 16, 2004 Report Posted October 16, 2004 Return on investment is what it stands for Aki. Quote
Bo Posted October 16, 2004 Report Posted October 16, 2004 and i always thought it stands for 'region of interest'..... Now that's an easy one. If it travels thousands of light years to visit us, how can it be intelligent?i dont think i have a good answer to this one Bo Quote
mjanj Posted October 16, 2004 Report Posted October 16, 2004 Hi, all, If aliens are from the future, then it means we are in past and every future has a past. Then where is the past of those aliens?... Bye n take care. Quote
