Tormod Posted October 20, 2004 Author Report Posted October 20, 2004 ALexander - that is one cool avatar! Good job!
alexander Posted October 20, 2004 Report Posted October 20, 2004 Thanks Tormod, although it took a little tweaking i knew that someone would like it, like me when i saw the picture...
IrishEyes Posted October 20, 2004 Report Posted October 20, 2004 Yeah, I agree. I think it's awesome. Maybe Freethinker will start using that one when the new forum's open up! It's fitting for him, don't you think?
alexander Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 It is a good avatar, and he can use it freely if he wants to, really... I have another one i'll try to post either today or tomorrow...
alexander Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 Ok, I'm all set with the new one, hey question:can we I use my Avatar?

Hm, maybe we shoud have been clear about that in the rules: I don't think we should use any of the avatars in the contest before November 15, but if others disagree with me let's discuss it! It can hardly hurt if someone wants to use them, though?
IrishEyes Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 I think we should wait on using the avatars until after the contest is over. That way, judging is not swayed in any way. Of course, Alexander, if you wanted to use your own avatar now and not enter it in the contest, that would be fine. But it might also cost you a coffee mug...
Tormod Posted October 21, 2004 Author Report Posted October 21, 2004 Yes. I think it is fair. Submissions are off-limit for usage until the competition is over. Alexander, with your skills I reckon you can make another one JUST for yourself, eh?
Tormod Posted October 21, 2004 Author Report Posted October 21, 2004 The penguin avatar is cool...I know it's the Linux symbol but a polar bear and a penguin...do you have a thing for cold places?
alexander Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 I just thought i'd ask, i wasnt going to use it until the 15th anyways...The penguin avatar is cool...I know it's the Linux symbol but a polar bear and a penguin...do you have a thing for cold places? Well, I wouldnt make that descision just yet... first of all penguins are found anywhere from antarctica to the tropics, so i would call it a very adaprive animal that for me (as well as loads of other Linux users) is more of a symbol of warmth, peace and prosparity than coldness, but if you insist, ill post something that doesnt have to deal with cold climates at all, i hope i can find the right picture....
Tormod Posted October 21, 2004 Author Report Posted October 21, 2004 Wow! That spinning cube is awesome...and only about 7K. Very good. Hm...where is everybody else's submission? Come on folks!
alexander Posted October 22, 2004 Report Posted October 22, 2004 ok, maybe i am addicted to cold, bears, penguins etc... Must be the influence of "The Day After Tomorrow", but it cant be, i only watched it 5 times...I cant come up with anything scientiffic... maybe ill look at some pics of nanotubes or nanotubes with metal particles or something, and try to make something out of it. Ugh... Need to do something fun... Got it! reboot into Gentoo and start compiling Open Office, shouldnt take long; only 200 megs of code... about 12 hours if im lucky.
BEAKER Posted October 24, 2004 Report Posted October 24, 2004 I'm not sure what I need to do to make my avitar visible on the page without having to click on the link. I guess I'm just a computer wizzard wanna' be.
IrishEyes Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 Beaker, Hopefully, alexander will see your post and offer some advice. I'm sorry, I wish I could help you, but I am having no luck with that either. If alexander doesn't see your post and answer it by Monday, please send him a PM. As one of our new Moderators, I'm sure that he'd be more than happy to tell you how he did it.Good luck to all in this contest. I look forward to handing out lots of prizes!
alexander Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 one question: Did you go through and read Tormods instructions?what you need to do is to right click on your file link and say either properties or copy link, depending on your OS. From there you edit your post and in the in "image" tab on top bar post in the url from the properties.
